Default Introducing a few to firearms... Pictures

I just wanted to share a few pictures of an outing we had a few weeks ago... Rett is the manager at the lounge where I shoot pool, we have become good friends in the last several months and decided to take a few new shooters out to his land to pop off a few rounds.

Here is Rett.

And this is his son Alex, who has fired a .22 pistol before, but I think this was his first time with a rifle...

These girls had never fired a gun before, but became addicted very quickly.

This is Pete, he is totally new to firearms as well, but is having a blast.

Well...

We broke out my Ar, the .45, some of Retts pieces and were shooting one person at a time, but things got hot enough that five LEO vehicles pulled up at the front of the property and were on the loud speaker asking us to come to the entrance... LOL, they had their work cut out for them, they wouldn't come into the property of course and we had a hard time hearing them, much less figuring out that they were talking to us, but we finally figured it out and packed up... They soon realized that we were legit and all but one left, then he just ran all of our licenses and we went back to the BBQ.

It was a good time.

You should've challenged the LEO's to a shooting match. NRA bullseye or something.
I challenged a couple of the LEO's in my city to a match against the Firefighters. They chickened out though.

Can you imagine a bunch of cops being beaten by a bunch of firemen. He, he, he.
We would've won too.

We have done that many times with paintball wars, they always say it is a learning experience.

Looks excellent fun. Its always interesting to see new shooters with guns.

My nephew was visiting last Saturday and while I was filling the shooting bag he was asking if the bullets we real? I explained I would look pretty silly shouting bang bang on the range!

That's a very responsible thing to do CRP. A coworker was going to buy his first pistol today, a Ruger SR9. A few of us have sparked interest in buying firearms and several coworkers have bought their first pieces.

Please pardon my ignorance but what sort of license do you need to shoot on your own, or rather your friends, property? I live in Tenn and own property in Va and neither of those require any sort of license for firearms in your home or on your property. Neither require hunting licenses for property owners and Va extends that to children and grandchildren.

Just courious.

None that I know of Bro... He just ran our drivers licenses to make sure no one had any outstanding warrants, etc.

A fireman on the firing line firing live rounds and a cop? Of course the fireman would have won the firing contest.

I think it is funny when the LEO show up to private property. We have friend in southern Ga that invited us out to shoot on his land. The LEO's took it upon themselves to drive back where we were and got a less than cordial welcom from the property owner when he got there. I believe his reception would have been more cordial if he didn't have an attitude problem however. We all got put on the not so friendly list that day I believe.

I don't see where they have any business coming on private land to harrass y'all? Two things come to mind.... perhaps that particular area is not very pro gun AND there must have been a Butthead neighbor nearby that took offense to something that was non of his **** business....

Sooo...I just thought i would clarify what was really going on in these pictures....

Exactly right, Mike... The flip side of the coin is that the neighbor didn't know who was doing the blasting. If it HAD been trespassers (like they would really draw that much attention to themselves) Rett would want to know about it. Alternatively, if he just didn't like his neighbors popping off rounds, he now knows that there isn't a thing he can do about it.

I am glad that I live in an area where no one seems to care if you shoot or not. I hear gun shot all around my house just about every weekend. I do my share of it, too.

Last week, at work, I was talking to one of the maintenance men about guns and shooting when a woman who works with me overheard and expressed an interest in shooting. I invited her to go with me to the range and she said that she would plan on it. Now I just have to come up with a day when it is right for both of us. It is always nice to get someone interested in the sport and you never really know who just might be interested!

Angry Re: Introducing a few to firearms... Pictures

Nice pics and good job getting more folks involved in shooting. When my niece was here last summer, I took her for her first time to shoot. She shot a .22 pistol & rifle, .357 SAA, & my M-4. She really liked it, but voted for Obozo anyway.

Personally, I'm with Mike here. If I had been the landowner and we were not doing anything wrong, that LEO would have had a hard time running anyone's license for any reason simply because nothing illegal was occurring. Simply put, LEO can not arbitrarily run your license just because you're shooting guns in the country.

When the landowner stepped forward and said, It's my land and we're just doing a little shooting ALL the LEO's should have left you to your own business since no laws were being broken. When he asked for licenses, my response would have been "Are we breaking any laws? No, well you can leave my property then and close the gate behind you" If he felt like he wanted to push things, he would have needed a warrant for ANYthing else.

Then again, I may have ended up in jail, but these are the kinds of things that need to be watched. These new shooters now think that LEO can harass them anytime they are shooting and that's just not right.

He might have been nice about it, but he was still being a bully.

I'm no tough guy, but they would have had a hell of a time trying to convince anyone on my property to show I.D.. But it really is a no win situation. If they went and got a warrant then you'd have a been listed as trouble. Anyway, the pics are cool.

Great pics, great story! Ya gotta love it when things come together and all have a good time! It is always good to see new shootes at the line! I like it that that the LEO's pulled up at the front of the property, that showed respect, and good sense, but I don't like that he ran anyone's ID with no just cause! That ain't right! I agree with some of the other posts that haveing them show up possibably meant that maybe a neighbor was thinking about your property, and that's good, but once the LEO knows that the property owner is present, and is in consent of what is going on, then he needs to leave, or join in, if he's off duty. Other than that he has no rights. Ofcourse, I'm sure it did no real harm for him to run everyones ID, it's just that he was being a little to pushy, IMHO. I had a Sheriff's Deputy drive across my property to where I was shooting, and told me I had to stop because some of my neighbors had complained. I knew better than that! He was in the area, heard the shots, and came to investigate. I was polite, but very firm when I told him that if he wanted something to drink, coffee, soda, water, whatever, he was welcome. That if he wanted to shoot a few targets with me, again, he was welcome. But if he was there to harass me, the best thing he could do would be to leave, that he was trespassing on private property. I went back to loading a mag, and then started shooting again. He finally got into his car and left.

Me and a couple friends were shooting pistols on a friend's private property one time, and a neighbor called the cops. The cops came out, talked to the property owner, told her that as long as we were outside city limits and 300 ft away from all dwellings, we were fine. Then he left without even walking down the hill where we were shooting. Most of the time, as long as you use common sense and don't act like a danger to anyone, the LEOs here leave you alone when you shoot on private property.

And from the pic, that particular LEO looks like he's been chasing too many donuts, instead of true perps.

Why is it that these guys are not forced to keep in shape, for cryin out loud? That's just irresponsible.

I have a theory on that.... Stress. It's darn near impossible to loose weight when the person is under an extreme ammount of stress. I saw a show on weight loss one time and they were talking about how stress reduction was vital to loosing weight because stress changes a persons metabilism somehow and the body tries to retain fat reserves instead of burning them. I believe this because when i was running the quarry back in arkansas i was under a load of stress and i was never able to loose weight no matter how hard i worked or ate.
So combine job stress with low pay and top it off with a wife and kids and whola.... Lardbutt syndrome!

Totally agree. I know several LEOs in great shape, and the only reason is because the exercise regularly - and a lot.

Their very lives are in danger if they don't.
