Happy New Year "YALL"
I have been playing with a 9mm barrell I bought and now have it working properly. Julie, my playmate and mother of my boys had commented on how much flame my Tok spits out as well as the noise compared to our other toys so I asked her to watch it with 9mm stuff installed. She said no flame! I am shooting with suppressor installed.
My 7.62 emptys fly about 20' to the right front and the 9mm lands about 2-3 ft beside me. What a difference.
The 9mm shoots high and left of where my POA is. With The TOK ammo POA is POI.
Of course I get a lot of FTF as the magazine is not made for 9mm. I am thinking bout getting another 9 round mag and try to modify it for Luger.I think a shim of some sort behind the cases may work.
I will keep in touch.

Looks like Santa was busy at your house! Nice toy, I would like one of those to waste a few 9mm rounds with.
You will be too spoiled to get out and play with the old junk now, like having to reload every 9 or 10 rounds
enjoy 2012 all

I recently bought a zastava m57 and me and my Brother took it out to shoot and could not believe how much more power it has than his Glock. I am embarrassed to say I want to change the grips and can't figure out how to get them off. I am not sure of the weight but I can tell you I wouldn't want to carry it around for very long.

Drop the mag and look inside the magwell. Each grip has a flat piece of steel that swivels to hold it in place. One of them has a small slot on the end you can put a screw driver or something similiar into. Push it to the middle position and remove. The other one is now visible and has some holes you can put something in and turn to the middle and it will also come off.

Thanks Permafrost.
One more question I would like to change the finish and reblue. How do you get the existing finish off?

It's not a suppressor, it's a muzzle brake.

Try GunPartsWarehouse.com
It actually seems to help a little bit but mostly the cool factor.

Sorry Firecracker,
I haven't looked at this post for awhile. Any bluing remover will take the finish off. I generally use the Birchwood Casey Blueing Remover. It seems to work well. Refinishing is a whole different story! I use cold blue and it comes out ok, but no way it can equal the original finish. It also doesn't seem to last long, even if you get it looking good, which takes a lot of prep and care when attempting. I hope you already have some other plan for the refinish!

I didn’t buy my first Tokarev because I wanted another collector. I bought it because it was $79 and the ammo was almost as cheap as a 22LR. The first 800rds came in a lead&steel tin, and set me back $25+tax. I still have a Chinese Norinco that will out shoot any GLOCK @50yds, I added a Laser sight to it and is the best home defense weapon you can get, so long as you know what room everyone else is in …OK so over penetration is a risk. But WTF the bad guy better be way down the road by the time I fight my way to the gun-safe.
Since then I’ve bought & sold several. The same thing can be said for most all of the SKS, Makarov’s that I’ve bought , shot and then sold for more than I paid for them.
TO Wayne: Glad to se that you were able to get the TOK to work so well for you.
Wish that I could have offered you your money back after your first attempt..you remember? When you were ready to kick it to the curb?. The fix that you are looking for to make that 9mm work is to add a block/spacer to the back of the inside of the MAG this closes the gap since the mag is made for a 25mm case and the 9mm case lg. Is 21mm.

TO Permafrost: you can make some real neat hollow point rounds for the TOKAREV out of the FMJ ammo.I have drilled them myself. I have also reloaded them but at the velocity that the TOK runs the FMJ rounds stay together better than the soft copper Jhp’s
If you get the chance to get your hands on a baikal makarov, It’s worty the expence.
This is an extremely good gun, It makes a fine CCW, shoots well in either hand, DA or SA, High capacity & it will feed 9X18 or 380 and it doesn’t care.

Thanks, Stormcrow. I've thought about making my own hollowpoints also. I feared they would strip their jacket in the barrel, since the jacket doesn't wrap around the base. I made some ,then chickened out. At those speeds it concerns me. I currently have a CZ82 in 9mm Makarov, 12 round capacity.
Excellent gun.

StormCrow I enlarged the hole in the link a little and it worked fine. I have no idea why or how I figured that out!?
Thanks, I will modify a magazine soon.

I got confused StormCrow, I thought you were talking about the 9mm barrel I bought but you were talking about my first try with the M57, I did have a bad start due to some really crappy, inconsistant ammo and learning how to shoot the thing.
One of my favorites now for sure!!

Spring has been here a while in Alabama, Tornadoes in winter, 83 deg F today.
I got a holster from Sport.Guide, a french holster with 4 misc leather pouches. The holster seems to have been made for the M57 so I now have another holster for it. The one that came with mine is like new but the French one is easier to get in and out.
I plan to shoot both calibers tomorrow if the storms don't get us tonight.

I've done a little bit of research into the M57. I'm liking what I see.

The local sporting goods store has a beat-up (Slide lock scratches from inexpert re-assembly, mag won't drop out empty on gravity alone.) for 275.00. I'm looking around at various stores within a few hundred miles before I make the final purchase, as I've read all over that they can be had for 200.00 new condition from original manufacture.

I'm not aware of J&G, or SOG other than seeing them on websites and forums like this as places to look online. I used to handle service issue weapons on active duty, but that was 20 years ago.

Just seems like I need a really good, accurate weapon, with a decent magazine size/capacity for home defense, and this M57 just might be it.

Don't pay that kind of money for a junker. You can get it from JGsales or Southern OhioGun like new with accessories for around $200.
SOG only sells to dealers or CR licensees though. My M57 from SOG was unissued unfired with spare mag and nice holster with cleaning rod. If you have another dealer you may be able to have it shipped to them for a charge. My local FFL dealer charges $30. So with 25 to $30 shipping and a 30 dollar charge at your local FFL holder you can get a nice Yugo Tok.
good luck

Thanks for the advice, I have heard 200 was going rate in a few places.

On closer examination one of the local Gander Mountain stores in Pittsburgh had 2 copies of these weapons, one serialed C-XXXX, and the other N-XXXX. Both had rust, scratches. Both mags were in bad need of cleaning and had burrs.

On one the slide lock only worked if you messed with it.

So I shopped around the store for a good two hours, starting at 9 AM, and took a good two full hours of one on one time with the guy there of examining all the various pistols, including strippiung them down, looking at all sorts of modular gear, rail mounted options, prices of ammo, magazines, etc.

I finally settled on a comfy BERSA .380 Thunder, with a sort of Pachymar? feeling grips. Felt really natural. For $325.00. I know .380 is low power, compared to something like a .45 or 7.62X25mm, but I wanted something initially that my wife or I could use equally. I'm going to take it to the one public range in the area in a few weeks.

I'm still planning on getting a C&R license, and eventually getting an M57 in that $200-$250 factory issue range deal. So I'm on the lookout.

The 380 will probably do what you want, it is popular for a reason. The 7.62x25 has more penetration than most home defense guns need. ( I still like it though)

WOW! I like the looks of that but I bet it is out of my price range. 9mm is ok with me but I have only one 7.62x25 and several 9mm (including my M57).
M88, it looks like a TOK but then the Tok is similiar to the 1911.
thanks for posting the pic
