Speaking of grips I had a failure on my M57 with the Marchal grips. My Glock shooting neighbor fired one shot from my M57 and the trigger bar dropped down around the magazine!! He gripped the gun so tight that the grips flexed and no longer supported the trigger bar. I put the stock grips on. He then tried my SKS with a newly installed Tapco 20 round mag and it jammed every time. I went back to my PRO MAG 40 rnd which has never given any trouble. He then picked up my nylon 66 and it misfired first shot and hopelessly jammed as the misfired CCI stinger would not eject!!!
He laughed at all my old junk and went back to shooting the Glock with no problems. On the good side I got to shoot the Tok yesterday and at 15 yds it stayed within a four inch circle. wayne Last edited by waynescyclegarage; 06-09-2012 at 11:22 PM.. |

I'm glad to see this thread keep going as long as it has. I really enjoy this pistol. It's one of the best built surplus pistols out there. I have an awful lot of fun with this pistol. Highly overlooked in my humble opinion. i don't feel even slightly underarmed when I carry this pistol. Thanks to everyone who keeps it going. M57's don't get the respect they deserve.(That's ok, 'cause the prices stay low)

Hi TOK Nuts (M57). Been a while since I got mine and am still enjoying it. I have improved my front yard shootin' range a little. I have been shooting my pistols at about 35 yards just for the fun of it. I do best at that range with my M57, P1 Walther and suprisingly a little P64 I recently purchased but it hurts to shoot.
I still want to improve the trigger a bit but mine is not really that bad. I also have pie plates stuck up at various distances just to try an occaisional quick shot at different angles. Getting low on 7.62x25 so will need to order more soon. Most of the cheap corrosive **** is not really all that cheap so I may pass and just get some modern stuff. have fun, I am wayne |

I took my M-88 to the range a couple weeks ago,,,it,s a bit of a handfull, but very reliable, I wish I could find some nice aftermarket grips to make it fit my hand a little better,,,but I,m a bit spoiled having a nice CZ 75B to shoot

I have been looking at them, (M88) seems like a lot of gun for the money. Does it kick real bad?
I get confused, my CZ82 firing a 85gr bullet at about 1000fps kicks like a mule and my P1 is firing a 115gr at 1200fps and feels like a 22lr !!??!! Basic physics says that is wrong. My M57 is not as unpleasant as the Makarov round. I need a CZ75, or a Berretta M9 maybe. I did not get to shoot my Yugo yesterday but it is on schedule for today ![]() |

I did shoot it today and had fun and a couple incidents, Twice it did not completely go into battery. I had to nudge the slide forward a little, each time with different ammo. I only fired about 20 rounds.
I thought it was my imigination at first but dry firing the pistol with a loaded mag the trigger is not bad. With the mag and chamber full the trigger is very hard to pull!! I have to wrap my finger around the trigger and squeeze hard! very hard to fire, ruining the accuracy. I am going to try to do a trigger job tonight or soon to see if this can be fixed. I cannot see any reason for this but it is not in my head. I tried it over and over and the difference is unbelievable. I don't have a trigger scale but I would guess that dry firing the pull would be less than 10lb. In battery I would guess about 30 to 40lbs! The best I could do today was to keep on the pie plate at 15 and 20 yards because of the trigger. More later, have fun wayne |

I always forget this is a new gun and not really broken in. I disassembled the trigger group to polish stuff and the psrts still had not worn the blue off. I did smooth it up and it is much better. The accuracy is back( good for a battle pistol) and last nights cleaning and rail greasing took care of the sticky slide. I still really like this powerful gun and had a nice shoot.
I still feel lucky to have gotten it, 4 digit ser. #, 5 torch, tight bore and totally unissued, unused when I got it and the like new holster with 2 mags for $200. SOG. I did not remove the mag disconnect as I like having it. I think a weaker hammer spring would lighten the trigger pull more but for now it is smooth. I don't think a weaker spring would cause any problems on mine as it indents the primers nicely. Got to order some more ammo, that was fun. wayne |

My experience with spring mods for recoil has been negative on most pistols, usually cannot tell the difference.
I am still checking them out (M88), hows the accuracy? wayne |

I'm thinking the M88 would make a good concealed carry gun. The M57 is really slim ,so the M88 should be slim also and smaller. Everything I have with any power is to big. I'm not a polymer type guy, so not interested in the pocket pistols out there now.

I found a small pistol that is now my carry gun. The Polish P64, 9x18 Makarov. It is very accurate and very thin. The only problem is the double action on these guns is useless and not repairable so it will have to be cocked. Also the kick is horrendous. It does have decocker and loaded chamber indicator which I like. I'm not much into plastic either even though I know some of the new guns are better than what I shoot.
NOTE< my adress book in my email has been hacked!! Do not open anything from me if I happen to have your e mail. SORRY The little P64 grew on me and replaced my CZ82 as a carry pistol if for no other reason I can shoot it far better than the CZ or any of my other guns at 15 to 20 yards and closer.??? wayne |

I bought it to replace my present carry piece,,,9MM has more Knockdown power than a 380,,,It,s a bit heavier being all metal I,m still on the fence as making it my carry,,,I like the idea of Single/Dbl first shot,,,

My tiny little P64 is powerful enough but has its issues, like a crappy unusable double action, 6 shot mag etc but it sure hits what you point at. Looks like a PPK but is not a clone. So, maybe a M88. I will carry my M57 some in the winter when I have a jacket ( rare in Alabama) wayne |

Hi, been away for a while working on my other Yugo, M59/66 chopped.
I am "Huff" in most forums here on guns. I need a new clip that holds the take down/slide holder in place. It does more than I thought when I first got my M57. I did not realize that it was also the spring for the SHO and now and then my slide stays back at ramdom I ssqueezed it some so it works for now but I need a new one. I still have a motorcle business and it looks like the master link clips I have hundreds of but I think they are different. I haven't searched real hard for parts yet but thought some of you might have an idea. thanks wayne |

What you are looking for is the Slide Stop Retainer Clip.... you can buy one here:
https://www.buymilsurp.com/slide-sto...3-p-42334.html Looks like they are out of stock right now, but I would give them a call to see when they may have more. |

I have a cz-82 in 9x18 and absolutely love it.I bought the Hornady critical defense rounds and they are 95 gr and 1000fps at muzzle. In wet phone book and homemade gel the hornady mushroom perfectly and silver bear performs almost as well.I bought some wolf but it does not feed at all with too many fails so I stay away from it.The silver bear is nicle plated cases just like the Hornady and performs flawlessly.I been wanting a TT33 as it is a really hot round.I like the thinness of the frame and it seems like it is just a commie version of a 1911.J&G Sales has them in there C&R sectionwith pretty good prices.

I just got a model 57 Yugo from Dan's Sporting goods. it's in great shape. I believe a very early gun. Serial number is 04XX with no letter prefix. As near as I can tell the safety was retro fitted and the barrel's matching serial number is electric penciled in. The bore looks brand new and the gun is very accurate. The slide appears to have a six flame crest. My guess it's a re-built gun. Any educated guesses out there?
