Of the choices presented by the OP, I'd go with the revolver.

I'll put my vote in on the .45, though I'd rather have it in a 1911a1. Just personal preference, but it has never failed me. Big, that's some wild story!! I thought my mishaps were something, but that one takes the cake. Happy your still with us, friend. TJ

SW 686 would be the first, from your list. But I would pick-up my 10-22 in a real dark house. Very low flash and almost no sound, to say nothing about more rounds and no shots going though the walls. Get past that then U deal with my 870.

12 gauge 18 inch pump action shotgun----up close and the perfect weapon for home defense
Most gunfights in the civilian world take place within 3 to 10 yards with 90% of rounds fired--missed using handguns Shotgun up close and very personal under extreme stressful situations as having bad guys break into your house. |

AK47. Always works. Shove it up an elephant's butt for a year and it'll still work when it comes out. Run over it with a tank. It'll work. A Romanian WASR version will net you about $500 and a Yugoslavian M70 will be about $700. Things you shoot with an AK (7.62x39) will stay dead. You cant always say that about the .223 round. ![]() The benelli is nice, but Remington makes tactical versions of their 1100 for half what the Benelli will get you for. About $800 H&K... ptooey! They are way overrated plastic crap. Fill your fist with some steel, man! I recommend a Rock Island Armory 1911. For about $500 you will get a no-frills machine that will shoot like the dickens. My friend just hit the 10k mark on his. Good thing he reloads and casts his own bullets, or he'd be broke. By the way, these 1911s, are made on old Colt machinery.Lastly, the S&W. There is no compromises here. You'll spend about $800-$1000 for a suitable .357. |

According to Armscor ( RIA ) they have their own CNC equipment. |

though anyone who can get past nipper, an aussie shepard, is likely to be immune to bullets Last edited by Claude Clay; 06-01-2009 at 11:17 PM.. |

i would have to opt for the 45, mostly because the 45 is less muzzle flash and more controlable than the 357, and is more wieldy than a longgun. the ar or shotgun would both be good given that you didnt have to hold a light or go round doors or anything like that, if you see the barrel of a shotgun coming around the corner, you can grab/deflect the muzzle while shooting with a pistol. another reason i would choose a handgun over long is because, in a situation like this, it is possible you will take a round yourself, and if you took one to any part of your body you're going to feel far less like holding a 5 pound gun up than a 2 pound gun, you cannot point and fire a shotgun or ar effectively with one hand,

, i dont think that any ak would survive being ran over by a tank. a vehical yes, but a tank no. steel tread doesnt give, neither does 50 tons, at the least it would crush the dust cover and distort the recoil spring guide rod, and most likely it would push the sides of that receiver together in a manner that it would bind the bolt carrier, and the pins and cause it to be inoperable~john |

"In a hypothetical situation you up stairs in your house at night and you hear some one or multiple people break in to your house. you open your gun safe and inside you have a choice of these firearms."
Shotgun hands down - in this type of situation. I station myself at or near the stair top and wait for the cavalry to arrive. This is a classic barricade situation and with buckshot or slugs, ain't no one getting by me. Normally I would opt for the revolver, should I have to move about indoors. I have six sure ones and a long gun indoors is too cumbersome and easily disarmed. |

I'm probably wrong about that, sorry. I'm still suffering from TBI due to a bad motorcycle crash a couple years ago, and cant remember things correctly sometimes. I remember reading about these having some connection with the old school .45s. I'll try to find out and get back to you.
