On 4-18-09 a new Heavy Gun 1000 Yard 10 shot Bench Rest world record was set.
Joel Pendergraft shot a 10 shot group from a rest that measured 3.048" He was shooting a .300 Ackley Improved. This was shot at the Hawks Ridge 1000 yd. Bench Rest Club. http://benchrest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=60964 Art

I do need to add that this is not a standard type rifle. This gun is mounted in both a front and rear rest and probably weights 50 pounds or more. That being said, he was still still fighting distance, wind, ect.

Wow thats crazy good shooting but look at that rifle!!!! what is that a 60mm thick bull barrel. So it takes mad skill a crazy thick barrel and a rifle thats bolted down more than the cables on the Brooklyn Bridge to make a group like that at 1000 yards.
I'm just curious what group you would get if you used a round with a much higher BC than the 300 Ackley Improved like a .408 chey tac or .416 Barrett in a rig like that? Because the BC for those rounds is about 1.1 thus its less effected by external forces.

That's what makes our sport so much fun. All the mechanical help in the world, and you still have to dope the wind, and light correctly if you want to win.
