I just watched the "Shooter" starring Mark Wahlberg. It was an excellent DVD with conspiracy, guns, snipers (the central role) and evilness in government. Very contemporary.
I would recommend that you pick it up.

THIS IS MY FAVORITE MOVIE!!!! The Rifle he uses is a Chey-Tac .408 The only things i dont like about that movie was the Barrett M82 in the first part was either bolt action or fast action and not semi auto and the Military Adviser sais the 408 would rip the guy in half at 1800 yards which isnt true... but other than that IT IS MY FAVORTIE MOVIE!!!

Hey Tim, if you thought the movie was good, you should read the book!! I thought the book would be close to the movie.... not even! The name "Bob Lee Swaggert" & the frame job are the only simularities.
If you're into mi-nute details, precision shooting, 1-shot kills, & historic target rifles.... ![]() I like to read a good book every once in a while, & "Shooter" (IMHO) is the best Sniper type of reading available. ![]() SR

Yes that is an excellent book. The movie is good too but as always the book is better.

SR....I read constantly so I'll pick this up. Is the name of the book "Shooter" or is it based on another book?
Thanks for the "heads up".

"Shooter" was a pretty decent movie. But in typical Hollycrap fashion, they crapped up a lot of the shooting. But overall, a decent and watchable movie. Mark Wahlberg is an underrated actor. He almost always delivers a good performance.

I saw the movie not to long ago on FX. I found it to be very entertaining. I look for the entertainment value of the movies I see and do not critique them to harshly. Was everything right in the film? Probably not but I liked it very much just the way it was.

Evilness in Government, frame job? Isn't that playing out on the evening news with Nancy? I wonder if she has a Barrett. Leon P. better watch out. She has cornered herself. She has a target ritch environment on the compass rose. Think she will snipe herself in the foot again? Loved the movie. #3 son said read the book. Forgot about it. Just told my wife to put it on the grocery list.

The book is "Point of Impact" and is written by Stephen Hunter. The movie was ok, but the book is way better. There is a whole series of Swagger novels, all of them pretty entertaining. Mr. Hunter is also an NRA member and avid gun rights supporter. There was a blurb about him in one of the semi-recent American Rifleman mags.

I read that series of books 10 years ago so the deyail are sketchy, but I remember some talk to the 10 Kings. 10 rifles made of such superior quality that were essentialy "lost". Am i crazy or is there any truth behing these supposed "10 Kings"?

The movie was good. But the book is 10 times better. The series of books is great. The author (Stephen Hunter) did a lot of research in writing "Point Of Impact".
It's funny, Hunter is/was the chief film critic for the Washington Post. "Time To Hunt" is the follow up book in the series and is also a great read. He also wrote a non-fiction book titled 'American Gunfight, the plot to kill Harry Truman and the shootout that stopped it'. It's a true story that received good reviews in several gun mags including American Rifleman. I haven't read it yet, but plan to. http://www.randomhouse.com/author/re...authorid=13883 Art
