My nephew Kevin left Utah a few years ago to work for the Baltimore Fire Dept. He just received his fourth comendation from the mayor along with his master firefighter's cert. He's only 32 years old & has only been there 5 years now.
This latest comendation was from when he was in Paramedic mode & was called to the home of an old man who had fallen & was down for several days alone. Kevin & the men who were with him put the man on the couch & the others were trying to quickly leave. But with no other calls Kevin asked the man about his welfare & he said his kids hadn't been over for quite awile & he had an adult diaper problem. The other men hit the truck & left Kev there helping the old man to shower & re-dress. Turned out the old man was a retired US Army General who contacted the Mayor's office in grattitude. We're proud of ya Kev!

Let him know we all appreciate what he does, even though we may be thousands of miles away. I think a lot of citizens take fire / medical / law enforcement / military personnel for granted, but not all of us.

You know, Pop, it's really very simple: Good men, those who hold to the values of decency and respect, raise good sons. The acorn never falls very far from the tree.

That happens to be true. His dad my bro is an honorable man for sure. He's my big brother so i've had some good examples with my Dad & him. My nephew gives me hope for the young ones taking the reins of the country now.

Excellent, a man to be proud of without question. A fine example to those around him.

There is a man who takes care of business. I don't care for those who try to give us the business. This is truly a remarkable country. On the one hand we get men like Obama but on the other hand we sometimes get a real man like Kevin. A tip of the hat.

Sounds to me like your nephew is quite a man. It takes raw courage to go into a burning inferno to protect lives and property. Bravo to him and his peers for the work they do everyday and others take for granted as being a service owed to them. No one owes you risking their life. It is their decision to offer it up for you.

Kevin - I don't even know you - but you embody the message, "patient care" !! It's the mantra of my oldest; an EMT. His fireman brothers run into stuff the rest of us run away from......

I had heard the story from his Mom yesterday & I called Kevin to congradulate him. He's now manning the phones at a dispatch location there after shattering his ankle in a water rescue recently. They tried to send him home on disability but he talked them into a desk job till he can walk again. Then I guess he'll be right back at it again.
I felt pride & was inspired so I wanted to share with you all. Makes me want to do better. |

What a great story! All medical, policemen, firefighters and armed services need to have their stories shared more often. Everyone of them have more than one story I'm betting that would inspire all of us more often. Thanks for sharing!
