after reading about 1911's on here... dern it i want one. i used to have a springfield GI and loved it. so im thinking about swapping my ruger 357 in and getting on, a semi-local gunshop had one for around 450.
i been wanting another 45 for a while... and now im just about in the notion to get me one. figuring i will get the GI model, lower and flare the port and put an extended ejector in it, polish inside and out as needed, sharp edges and such off appropriate parts, replace the mainspring housing with a non lock model, other than that leave it stock. any thoughts or suggestions? thanks guys ~john

well pistol, i have had both, and i love both. but i really miss the one i had before. even though i have a couple mags for g22. one reason i want another 45 though is because i know how to disassemble one of them all the way. while the glock i can only field strip it. not that this is a real issue, but if i accidentally dropped the gun in water or whatever, i would want to completely strip it for cleaning.
shooter45, well i have considered that, but the GImodel is available while the milspec isn't.. they cant order me anything i want, and im happy enough with the GI, i can lower and flare the slide myself, but if you complain to SA about brass hitting you in the head, they will do it at no cost to you. they did the last one i had that way, and i had a SA guy at the nra show tell me that was their common practice for such complaints. i just really love the way a 45 feels in my hand, i like the heft of it, and the grip shape of an arched housing. but now im considering the possibility of a glock 22 since i already have mags for it |

Do you know the difference between a 1911 and a fine woman?
The 1911 is easier to strip down ![]() |

True, but taking the safety off either one can be dangerous, Jackson. ![]() ![]()

Or Fred G Sanford, The G stands for Glock. Se looked good to me but all that I could see was her fine brown frame!
