Default What's my Springfield shotgun worth??

Hey guys...

My father recently passed on to me a Savage Arms Springfield Model 18E (Serial Number: A822552) bolt action 410ga with a 5 round magazine that was a gift to him from my Mom on their wedding day. Anyway, that was in 1971. It was only ever fired once and has been stored in it's zippered leather case ever since. The magazine is still loaded with the remaining shells.

Can anyone tell me what it may be worth??

Thanks!!

I can't find it in my books, so I'm gonna wing it.

I'd say between 75 and a hundred dollars. It's got three things going against it being worth much.

Springfield was the inexpensive line of the Savage guns.

It's a bolt action. They just aren't popular.

It's a 410. That is very difficult to use in wingshooting (small shotload means holes in the pattern for the birds to fly through), and the ammo is very expensive to buy.

With that combination - 410 bolt - about the best thing it could be used for is a squirrel gun. Someone looking for a first gun, to take his 10-year-old squirrel hunting, would probably be interested, but I can't really see anyone else wanting it. Well, maybe someone that runs rabbits with beagles.

Welcome SSG:

I can't find anything in my books either. I tend to agree with Alpo, all except for the .410 angle. The .410 bore is less common than other gauges, therefore it might actually add some value if you find the right purchaser. Even so, I can't find fault in Alpo's estimate.
