Any Suggestions on a Good Coffee Maker?

My second Black and Decker coffee maker died this morning, didn't even make it a year. One before that, B&D died, in about a year. I drink a pot a day so its not like I use the thing all day, but I am getting tired of replacing these things. Anybody got any suggestions on a coffee maker? I bought my last B&D. Thanks.

Try the Gevalia brand. You get one free when you buy two half lbs. of their coffee and you can cancel after that. I've got one and it works well. If you really don't mind spending the money, get the Bunn brand. It is the best that I know. Hope this helps!

I have a Mr Coffee that I've had for at least 10 years and it still works fine. Has time display and timer setting to have coffee made when you get up. The other option is the cheap $10 Wal Mart variety, when they die get another.

I use a "cold brew" system that makes a FABULOUS cup of smooooooooth coffee. If you're so inclined, look up "Toddy Coffee Maker" online and read about them. It's a different approach (you make a coffee concentrate) but if you're all about flavor and no stomach issues from the acids, this is excellent.

I liked the Bunn but eventual went back to my battered 7 cup aluminum Mirro drip pot. Absolutly the best for dripping Community Coffee.

I mostly use a Mr. Coffee, the Bunn is really a good one, and fast too, my brother uses one. Sometimes though I just like to use the old drip pot that I use for camping. It absolutely makes the best coffe. If you would like to try some of our Community Coffee, let us know, we'll send you a pack. Just follow the instructions on the package. My B&D one-cup (mug) is only about 6 years old. Whenthe commercial Bunn at the bus barn went southon us, I bought a couple of the WM Mr. Coffee machines. At 4 pots each per day, 5 days a week, they only lasted 2 years. Not too shabby, actually.

I would advise against the Bunn Thermofresh model . I think it's a ripoff that I paid like $160 for and consider it useless. It works like a drip pot which takes twice the amount of coffee to make a decent pot of coffee. It works totally different from the usual coffee makers. It has a thermal pot with no warmer to keep the coffee hot so it doesen't stay warm very long. Check this site: http://www.complaintcenter.com/CF-Products-8257/338.htm
I used mine for about a month and hated it. Went and bought a Cuisinart For about $60 and really like it.

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions and hints. I am gonna run over to J.C. Penny after work and see what they have. Thinking Mr. Coffee or Cusinart, but I will check em all out.

I'd avoid Gevalia. They spam and engage in a pattern of high-pressure marketing and sales practices, and have for many years. Their coffee is also fairly mediocre; we coffee nuts know you can get significantly better coffee cheaper elsewhere. :-)

I use a Melita filter or French press, so all I need is a kettle to boil water. However, Krups and Braun both make excellent coffee makers. I have an old Krups in storage that I bought in 1983, the year I graduated from college. I used it daily for years, and it still works fine for the rare occasion when we have guests and I need to make coffee for more than two people.

After buying and using up or not liking a variety of machines over the years I settled on a commercial Bunn VP17 much like you would see in a restaurant. I put it on a timer so it powers up a half an hour before I wake up and shuts off a couple of hours later, I turn the power off at the timer after I am done making coffee. The big filter funnel is good if you make your coffee strong. I paid a lot of money for it but 12 years later it is still running like a champ. If I had it to do over again, I'm not sure I wouldn't get a funnel for a Bunn machine, make hot water on the stove and just pour it through the funnel into a beaker. This is how I do it camping. I used Mr Coffee machines for years, I say machines(s) as I went through several of them, they only last three or four years. I tried a French press, too much trouble to clean it, too much water wasted in cleaning when camping, paper filter just goes in the trash can.

This is AMERICA son, AMERICA. We don't drink tea. Except the ladies, they sometimes drink tea. Not the men. Unless it is iced which you Brits don't consider tea. By the way, you never answered my question about the wedding where you drank over 500 bottles of Champagne and 300 bottles of wine. How much did the other guests drink?

We went through a BUNCH of B&D, Mr. Coffee, and lesser known ones before buying this one. We are on a well, and VERY hard water, so coffee pots lime up pretty fast.
This thing flashes a light when it is time to clean it -
Pour in a half pot of vinegar and a half pot of water and set it on self-clean, and it does a special slow cycle designed to remove all the lime from the system, and it does a great job.
It also has a charcoal filter in the water reservoir that makes the coffee taste MUCH better.
Auto timer, programable hold time, etc. etc. of course.

We have used it over sixteen months, and it is flawless.

ROFL hey fella its not he pot its the water you are using. We had the same problem got to the point on black fridays we would find the cheapest pots and buy 5 or 6. Then we found out about a brita water filter pitcher, now just replace filters every 3 months, had same coffee pot for 2 years! Think about it

Well went and got a Mr. Coffee. It has all the features of the Cuisnart, does the cleaning thing etc. I saved the box and original receipt, cause if this thing gives out in less than a year, they are getting it back--first time in a long time I actually read the warranty.

I know water can be an issue, but my coffee makers see nothing but bottled water. Thanks for the heads up.

We had ONE Mr. Coffee that lasted for YEARS, but a couple others that died very young.
