Default My First 1911...Colt Commander

Yep, I finally bought one today. Saw a guy shooting a Dan Wesson (really nice gun by the way) and it pushed me to go out seeking a Colt Commander specifically, I've been wanting one for a while.

I thought about Springfield, and others, but I wanted a really good one (not saying Springfield isn't, just doesn't carry the weight that the name Colt does) without going into the expensive custom stuff that you get with Dan Wesson, Les Baer, or Kimber. What really sold me though is that I held a Colt Commander once and just loved it. Perfect size to me, with the 4 inch barrel and great weight balance, finish, and trigger.

Anyway, here's mine.

Pictures aren't the best, I know. I'm too excited right now to setup the picture taking stuff I guess, I'll get more later. You can see it's still got the factory oil and stuff on it so I'll need to clean it.

Makes me wonder why I didn't buy one sooner.

I love it. There is nothing you need to do to it.

Thanks, that's my thoughts too, I don't think I'd want to change anything either!

Thanks glocknut! The great thing about 1911's is that grips are easy to find, with a huge selection. I bet that stainless of yours would look great with some rosewood grips on it.

I haven't been able to get it to the range yet...weather and work haven't been letting me...hoping for this weekend though.

It's time to get serious with the picture taking!

Very happy with my Colt.

Congratulations. It looks like a beautiful pistol.

Question: Is not the barrel 4.25 inches?

Congrats on your Colt, I feel you joy. I acquired my grandfathers Colt Commander chambered for 9mm a few months ago. It is around 50 years old or so. I have fired 50 rounds through it and it shoots nice. I need to get it cleaned up from all the years of rust, dust and neglect. I think my next 1911 will be a Colt Gold Cup. Sorry in advance for crappy pics:

Some of those are the best pics - post it. Anyone who makes fun of a "used" gun must not have carried one for anytime .... You should see some of mt old LE weapons .... (most of my pics look good - only because I took pics when they were new ... )
