Dont you know it's fashionable to drink. I must admit i like to drink also. But i never keep the stuff at home. I only drink at the camp and there is no chance of driving. Having said that it wouldn't bother me one bit if it was off the shelves for good. Do I need another drink ---- nope.

Mainstream hugh couldn't even begin to tallk about banning alchol. Maybe we should put little serial numbers on the bottles of booze and registure them. I'd go for that.

the number of deaths by policemen or people killing in self defense may be included in this list too and it should not be. This should only list murders,
suicides,and accidents nothing else.

Here is one more idea for you if you think Uncle SAM is not in the drug business
Vietnam we sprayed with agent orange to kill all plant life to rid the enemy a place to hide
Yet in Afghanistan where 90% of all cocaine comes from have they sprayed anything there to kill the poppies except maybe miracle grow.
So much for WAR ON DRUGS. right?
Do we have cheap gas with all the oil that Iraq is paying us back for all the tax dollars we tax payers payed to free them.

We tried that. It made things worse, not better. It would be nice (and surprising) if the people yelling for more gun control drew the obvious lesson from the failure of Prohibition.

According to liberal logic, a firearm used for self defense is evil, but a bottle of booze that causes a DUI death is just a personal choice

There's one reason why the gov't won't outlaw booze again...tax money. That, and a lot people will let the gov't take away any rights the feds want to as long as said people get their daily dose of liquid happiness.

They tried it. It was referred to as the 21st Amendment to the Constitution. However, to add to what has been alluded to:

Alcohol & automobiles are acceptable ways to die in the eyes of the public. It is something they can have empathy with because it is a part of their daily lives.

If they used their same mentality about firearms, the automobile would be the villain in the case of a car crash and the bottle the villain in the case of the alcoholic.

Exactly! That, and a gun can be used to prevent the feds from infringing on our rights. A bottle of booze can't. Plus the booze makes people easier to control. And the booze causes health problems that makes someone more likely to accept more gov't control of their lives in the form of socialised medicine.

They did try to outlaw alchol, and it didn't work. Then they tried to outlaw durgs, and that's not working either. Now they are talking about outlawing guns, you'ld think they'ld learn that there are just some things they need to leave alone!

The "They" in question would not benefit from learning any of those lessons. The real problem is that to leave things alone that should be means that they will be ceding power to the individual, and that's in direct conflict with their world view.

I thought about this also, but wondered if we have a defoliant that will not harm our troops. My concern is a good friend's son is in those same mountains killing taliban and confiscating processed cocaine. Last time I heard, they had killed 70 or so and confiscated 102 tons of cocaine ready for the market.

They are trying to kill their cash cow, but I'd rather that my Marine came home without Agent Orange type symptoms.

I here ya there 45. I would rather a coke head gets his fix than having our military breathing that in by the hundreds or even thousands.

Lurpy, that chart looks neet but I think there is a ringer in there. Check firearm assault 1 in 314 deaths. Given a population of 300 million, that comes out to 955,414 firearms assaults. If there are about 5000 firearms related deaths per year, over a 75 year lifetime that would be about 375,000 over a lifetime. Not allowing for the narrow range of demographics where most of these deaths would normaly be expected to occure it seems a very high number. Any of you statisticians out ther see where I might have gone wrong?

Your math is correct enough. If the chart is for the U.S. alone, and the stat is for "criminal assault" alone, then they are 100% lying! However, if the stat is for the entire earth and not limited to criminal assault but includes EVERY instance of assault with a firearm including combat, then the stat could be fairly close.

Booze doesnt kill people. People that drink TOO MUCh do. If you dont have the good sense to know when to cut yourself off, quit drinking. YOU are the problem not the booze.

Then pull our boys out and send all of our drug offenders over there and spray the whole country then they won't have the money to fight any one.
and the drug head heads can over dose while they are there two problems solved at once.
Supply and demand gone.
Plus send all the men in washington that support the rules of engagement
(don't fire until they shoot you) and see what they think then.
