Is there a way to control the muzzleflip on my Model 700 tactical. It has a 20" heavy barrel and everytime I squeeze off a round the muzzle wants to go skyward lol. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also does anyone know any ways to stop the stock from touching the barrel when mounted to a bipod, I would like to put a Harris Tactical on her but I have heard that this causes the stock to flex at the tip and touch the barrel which could affect accuracy. Thanks in advance...

A trick to prevent the stock from touching the barrel is in the bedding process. What has been done with great success is bedding cut down carbon fiber arrows in the stock. It may require to cut away some of the mold webbing in the stock but you place 2 or three arrow shafts the forend and bed them in there first. Allow to dry for about 3 days then go in a bed the barrel action in free float as usual. The carbon fiber rods or arrows prevent the stock from flexing upward and add tons of rigidity.

Muzzle "flip" can be stopped to some extent by installing a muzzle break. Felt recoil is reduced too but the tradeoff is that the nasty muzzle blast that usually heads mostly forward is re-dirrected partially to the sides & rear. I've never put one on any of my rifles after shooting several. I hated the blast.

Or you could remove the barreled action and sand down the barrel channel of the stock for more clearance.
The best fix is to buy a McMillian Stock. ![]() |
