Default Kimber 4" vs 5"

Hi all,

I'm getting ready to purchase my first 1911. I have been shooting M&Ps for a while but really want the trigger of a 1911! I am looking at the Eclipse Target II and am looking for opinions on the 4" barrel vs. the 5". Is there much difference in accuracy? I assume the longer sight picture would be an advantage but how much? My M&P .40 has a 4 1/4" and my .45 has a 4 1/2". Can't tell much of a difference.......

Rick

I'm getting close to the "old fart" stage at 53 and my eyesight ain't what it used to be.....Not terrible, but that's why I'm looking for all the help I can get. I don't see much difference in a 1/4" between the 2 M&Ps I have, but didn't really know about a 4" vs a 5".

Personally i would choose the 4" one. My eyes would do better with it...
But that's just me.

No other gun has the feel of a full size 1911. You need to shoot both.

5". Why? IMHO, anything else is not a 1911. I always prefer a longer barrell just for the longer line of sight. If the weapon is for CCW, a full size 1911 may not be the answer and a 4" may be more practical.

Most people are more accurate with a 5". It is a great weapon. However, the Commander size weapons can be a little more concealable. So a lot of this has to do with what your plans are for the weapon. Range and home defense - 5" Government all the way. CCW, I would probably go with the shorter Commander.

if you can carry/hide a 4in barrel on your person a 5inch wouldnt pose any problems. they made so many different holsters for a 1911, you'll be able to find one that works for you. as for the sight picture yes the 5inch is a tad better but not enough to worryabout it. so it becomes a matter of which one feels better for you.
