Default Theres hope after all

Got a new job today working at home depot on the sales floor for 10 bucks an hour. its not the greatest job in the world but i think its a good sign for the future. maybe the economy will be easing up soon.

Congrats, it's a job and HD is a decent company to be working for. So many people being laid off lately, it's very nice to hear about someone being HIRED !

Fantastic to be hearing of some ones good fortune these days. Seems like we hear a lot of people losing jobs and not being able to find another. I hope this job works out well for you.

Home Depot pays $10 an hour for sales?!!! You must know a particular trade like flooring or something...?

I had allways assumed that jobs like that were barely minimal wage. I might ought to give HD a looksie.

Congrats on the job. That $10 an hour ain't to darn bad right about now with this economy. Are they going to offer any health insurance plans with that wage by chance?

i know a bit about concrete work and around the house jobs that im sure we all do but thats about it. they put me in hardware. they also hired like 6 or 7 other people for other positions. im not sure exactly on me getting any benefits at the moment but i do know if you work there FULL time you get all that good stuff.

yeah when i found out i got the job i was barely expecting to get maybe 7 or 8 an hour but when he said 10 and working in hardware i thought i hit the jackpot. i mean not only do most people already know what they're getting when they go to home depot but im probably just going to be showing people where things are located most of the time. so should be a very laid back relaxing job. plenty of time to learn as much as i can.

And thanks everyone, i was really getting sick about this whole trying to find another job thing. im just happy i actually found one. ive probably tried applying everywhere ever since i got laid off at my last job.

i think things will be getting better sometime soon as long as our "GREAT" president doesn't put much more of his "Change" in our lives.

That all depends so highly on local minimum wages I think. People find out I make $11.50 an hour and half of them think thats awesome. The other half realize I am (basically) graduated from college with two degrees, worked for the same company for about 5 years (same rate) and make roughly a few dollars over our minimum wage . Can live at home for now so can't complain, but even then its only temporary work. I was making this before I went to college... why bother .

Nice to hear you've found a decent job in these trying times! I don't think I could work in a place like H. Depot or Lowes..... too much like a kid in a candy store!! I managed a couple of gun stores after my stint in the Navy & I always seemed to be "gun poor" when payday rolled around! It's nice to have a job where you can buy store items @ a discount!!

$8.55, high cost of living here in Washington. The curious thing is the drastic difference in sides of the state. Could get a house over in Spokane for just over $100,000 pretty easily. This area that I live in... I wouldn't hold out for anything under $350,000 these days. Houses advertise as "Starting in the low $500,000's!" as if that were a selling point . The curious part... same minimum wage on both sides . Granted that is partly just this area, but the whole Issaquah/Redmond/Bellevue triangle is freaking ridiculous these days! Single bedroom apartment in my neighborhood would run you $700 a month, and that was six years ago!

I got friends paying over $700 PER PERSON for a 3-bedroom in Redmond, that's what... $2,100 per month? Freaking ridiculous. And I have hopes of moving out sometime soon, yea right .
