Since everyone is throwing in their two cents worth, I guess it dosen't really matter what 1911 you buy or can afford, all that have been mentioned above I have heard alot about, except for the Fusion. I will have to check that out when I am done here! It seems that what everyone owns is their own favorite. As I wrote in another post, I LOVE my SPRINGFIELD. I have owned two of them. I only have one now, as I had to sell the first one due to health problems. They don't make it anymore in the configuration that I had. Boy, she was a beauty, Aluminum frame, stainless slide, ported barrel. I need to stop now as I am getting sick.... I could kick my own a-- if I could. I guess most of us have a similar story. Try to find the ONE that makes you all giddy inside and go from there. They are addictive, and yes if your funds allow, or you are good at trading, you Will own more than one. I'll go now, I feel that sick feeling again, it's about a Model 39 Finnish I once had..A Sako from 1942, what a SWEET shooter that was!

i'll go with the RIA 1911a1 . type it in and you can pull up some sites which have stress test results, including firing under water, buried in mud and sand and in every case the RIA performed as well as any it was tested against and some cases did better then. including kimber and wilson. my RIA cost me 439.00 in the box out the door. i have not modified it in any way. i've fired everything from blazer 230 gr hardball to cor bon 45 auto+p 165 gr jhp, and this fine pistol has performed flawlessly. i recomend it to anyone.

I went to the Bass pro shop this weekend to look and hold what they had. They had 3 S/W 1911's. All were sweet. One of them had a left hand safty which is very cool as I am a lefty. They were from $899 t0 $999. Nothing else there to compare with except some Taurus 1911's. No comp. I will keep looking. I will look for the RIA 1911a1 and whatever esle is available around Ft. Myers.

If I was buying an off the shelf one now I think Springfield gives you the best bang for the buck.

If th $900 range is not a problem, the Springfield "Loaded" are sweet guns. I have one that is my favorite gun. It drives nails right out of the box and has a very sweet trigger.

Does anyone have any input on the Sig 1911 Blackwater? I am looking at pics and specs and am getting a ...response.
I really like the looks of it but I dont know if they are any good. If it as good as my P220 it cant be too bad, except for lookin real BAD!

If you were to chose a Sig 1911 it would not be a bad choice. I have been extremely happy with mine. |

I just purchsed a 1911 from a friend of my wifes sister. It is an Ithica Gun Co. Inc. M 1911 A1 U.S.Army. Also says United States Property. It came with a leather shoulder holster marked US. Ser is 1452***. It has some initials stamped in the frame such as FJA beneath the slide lock, P just beneath the clip release button. I will try to post pics later. No markings on the clip. $400.00. With the gun show coming up next weekend I hope my $400.00 wasnt wasted when I could have gotton something else.?

mike gn ps I am hearing more and more reports about the Taurus 1911 being a good buy. Enough so that the first thought when Taurus is menitoned my first thought is positive. Springfield is probably best for the money. Kimber even makes some cheaper guns that have seen at the gunshop but their triggers are not as good as their pro tactical guns. They need a trigger job to make them right for me. I have tried handling several sigs. The grips have allways felt too thick. I couldn't find one that felt right. How it feels is really big thing to me.

Here are some pics, I hope. All I have done so far is to wipe it down with CLP. Tonight I will strip and clean. I dont know its history but I think it was made in 1943. It would be good to know something about it such as should I shoot it or hang it on a wall, what is it worth, should I have it restored... I know...bad to restore.
Its not the 1911 of my dreams, but I do like old stuff. As far as a new one, I am leaning to Springfields.

That a good looking 1911. I just looked it up in the Blue Book and it actually looks like you did very well with the $400, the book shows that a 60% gun is worth $800. I also looked up the serial number, and that range was manufactured in 1943 by Ithaca.

I have read on here somewhere were the Gov. took a bunch of old 1911's and made some good ones out of all the parts. How would you know if you got one of those? Is there a hallmark or something that would show this?

My second 1911 in a week! Who said on here that 1911's were adictive? I bought this from my gunsmith. He made it for himself a few years ago. It is an Essex frame, unkown slide as there is no markings, Colt barrel, Very smooth trigger. Everything is very tight and smooth. I will list the specs later. This weekend I hope to go to the range and fire both of the 1911's. So far I have $1200.00 invested in the two 1911's. I think I did pretty good on the two.

i have always wanted a 1911 since well before i joined the military. i served 7 years in the military and i found the M9 to be a nice gun, but insufficient in a lot of ways. well for my first gun i bought a springfield G.I. and i havent been happier. it shoots true, and the aftermarket is fantastic. everywhere i go every one loves my gun. im so glad i spent the extra money and got a REAL gun. all my friends have rugers and glocks, and they cant hit the black to save their lives. my point is, i spent $600 for the gun and i wouldnt go back at all. as a matter of fact, i want another. GET ONE!!!
