I always obey the Doc. My wife is an RN and I am sure that she would agree with you when I show her your post. I guess the prescription is to get more 1911's.

These are the bullets that came with my 1943 Ithaca M1911 A1. Can anyone tell me if they are from that era?

Yes, those are contemporaneous .45 ACP cartridges. They will probably fire OK, but I would not even do it. Kept together with the Ithaca pistol, they enhance the collector value of the set. Also, I would shoot the Ithaca as is and not even think about mucking about with it or 'enhancing' it. Watch out for the infamous 'hammer bite' that you get in the webbing between your thumb and first finger when using a high death grip hold on the pistol. The FJA on the frame are the initials for Lt. Col. Frank J. Atwood who was the Inspecting Officer in Charge of all small military arms procurement during that period of time. His initials show up on lots of pistols, revolvers, and rifles that the US Government procured during that particular wartime period.

Thanks Oldeyes for the info and good advice. I am going to keep the Ithaca original but will shoot it. I am thinking of getting a new barrel so I wont mess up the original which looks new.

Generally speaking, if the original Ithaca barrel is in good condition and well fitted to the slide and the frame, I would definitely lean more toward shooting the pistol with the original barrel. The process of fitting any new 1911 barrel might make going back to the original barrel and getting any decent accuracy out of the pistol kind of a trick. In my experience with several 1911 barrel replacements, the concept of a true 'drop-in' and 'requires no modification' barrel is pretty much a false one. And if you do just happen to find a barrel that IS by chance a 100% no gunsmithing drop-in, the accuracy and functionality in the pistol might not be up to your expectations. Good new 1911 replacement barrels are generally provide just a tiny bit over sized so that they can be custom fitted into various frames and slides of different ages, manufacture, usage, etc., and thus having slightly differing dimensions. The potentially required frame and/or slide modification for fitting a new barrel might make going backwards with accuracy on such a collectible difficult.

May I put in my 2?
Ain't it purdy? I did a couple of months of research, & when this slipped into my hand, I just had to have it. Now I think I'm having buyers remorse. It's not too convenient to break down, though I must confess I'm a new shooter. I have put quite a few rounds through it and have the brass burns to prove it (that catches you off guard!). I followed the instructions to disassemble & clean it...and well she's on a table. I've been tempted to call the Marine office here in town & ask for help! ![]()

Anyhows, I was at the range/gunshop yesterday with my daughter who is home on leave from the Navy, doing a little shooting. She has been bugging me for a gun so I relented and let her "BORROW" my Bersa .380 with walnut grips. After we got done shooting I asked the shop owner if he could look up a gun for me that I have been coveting. I showed him my computer print out of a Springfield Operator TRP. He gave me a real funny look and said..follow me. Went to the other side of the store and he took out the EXACT pistol that I wanted. He said that it was used (2 clips worth). He told me that that model is unavailable which I believed as I have much research.
Well, I knew that I had to have it so I tried to get a better price to no avail. He wouldnt budge a dime. I asked him if he had an x-ray machine in the store that scanned my wallet because when all was said and done, I had $12.00 left out of my secret stash of gun money. BUT I am now the proud owner of my THIRD 1911 in 4 months and it is a beauty! Not a mark on it. Its got a really light and smooth trigger, Trijicon night sights, match grade bull barrel, lots of nice stuff. Now I am going to have to sell some of my other aquisitions that I couldnt live without. or my homelife might suffer a bit. I am lucky in that my wonderful wife puts up with me and my toys.

Doc, impressive collection sir. My eye is especially drawn to the Wilson. One day I hope add one to my collection as well.

Picked up a S-A Subcompact 1911 45ACP. Anyone played with one of these baby 45s and have a good reload recipe. Do not think 230g full ups will be my cupotea.

Travis builds some nice 1911's. I owned a Combat Commander he built and the pistol always performed flawlessly.
