Default Ruger Ranch Rifle Accuracy

Gentlemen,

Does anyone have data or history with the latest version Ruger Ranch Rifle in 223 or 30 caliber? I am considering a purchase but have heard the the older or original rifles with the slim barrel were not really accruate. I spoke with a shooter recently who told me that the accuracy had been improved with the new tapered barrel models. I am also interested in reliability/feed information Any information would be appreciated.

I have heard a few good rumors of the new models. The bigger problem was the gas block holding the barrel and forgrip.

The AR they make now, I saw yesterday. Very top shelf parts with Rugers name on them. But that seems to be everywhere.

I have also heard that the newer ones are so much more accurate that the first ones. My next door neighbor and I were at the range today. He took his Mini-14, it was one of the older versions, and it was hitting everywhere. Very difficult to sight in a scope when every shot was in a different location. First shot might be high right and the next one low left and so on and so on. He finally just gave up trying to sight it in and enjoyed just shooting it.

Toohsotkil, gdmoody,
Thanks guys, I appreciate the information. I still have not made up my mind to buy one and will listen to other members to gather information. I read some old advise that said to buy a Marlin lever 30-30 instead. LOL I have one and the advise was correct that it is very accurate and just a perfect size.

Most of the issues that I am aware of was improperly matching the barrel twist and bullet gr. Since the mini has had just about every twist known to man 1/10 1/9 1/7 its best to have you're barrel checked and then apply the correct round. I bet most of your accuracy issues would deminish if you used some 62 grainers for those newer mini's

bizy, 312shooter,

Thanks for the replies. I know that the rifle only comes with at 10 round magazine. It is amazing that someone has not produced a gray market magazine. As for the barrel twist, I am sure that make a world of difference. I do not have a rifle yet but I am sure that your post will benefit others. Have you fired both the old slender barrel version and the newer heaver, tapered barrel models? If so, have you found the new models more accurate?

I do agree that the old mdls suck in the accuracy dept. However, my experience is that mini 14's eat anything. If you want something to shoot lead you can't beat the mini 14. Reloads, factory and brand, you name it the rilfe will shoot it. Dependable. Factory mags not a must but much better.

The new rifles are shipping with 20 round magazines. There is even a special edition out that has a 30 rounder. The rifles destined to California and like minded states have only 10 round option.
