I bought one just like it in high school for my first .22 pistol and still have it. Not terribly well built but pretty accurate and lots of fun; it took quite a few rabbits and grouse during deer season.

Certainly one of the last I'd ever get rid of - Smith & Wesson K-22 Outdoorsman.

The only .22 pistol I have is a early 60's Ruger Standard. Very accurate and fun to shoot. Wish I could find a couple more original mags for it!

This is difficult! Got a bunch of favorites. But since I specialize in the Fialas, I'll just put a couple of pics of some of my Fialas in here.
![]() The above are examples of the Fiala 3-bbl sets in fitted case with detachable walnut buttstock. This fancy rig sold for $35 back in the 1920s. It has a 3" bbl for carry; 7 1/2" for tartget/plinking; and 20" with wooden forestock which converts the pistol to a carbine with the buttstock attached. And below are some of my Fialas wearing their "Carbine Disguise." The bottom one is a factory "Special Order" 12 1/2" barrel. ![]() The Fiala is a UNIQUE magazine-fed single-shot that must be hand-cycled after each shot. They were made in New Haven, CT by four different owners so a few have a different name on them, or are NOT marked. Best regards ~ ~ ~ FFF Last edited by FloridaFialaFan; 09-03-2009 at 10:12 PM.. My MKIII is my favorite. As I said before this thing has killed more treerats than rabbies.

I inherited my dad's .22 Colt Match Target with a 6+ inch barrel, made 1955. Shoots a 5 shot ragged hole at 25 yards on sandbags and feels so natural in the hand when pointing. I snap shot a running rabbit at 40 steps with the 3rd shot not even really aiming because it's a natural shooter -- an extension of the shooter.

I have a Ruger MK II with the 6 7/8" tapered bbl. I used it for many years as my Bullseye .22 and was never disapointed with it. My other favorite (can't have just one fav!) is a 4" Colt Diamondback. Great little pistol. It's usually the one I carry in the field if I'm not carrying a big gun. RLB

Couple of years back my Mom presented me with her Ruger Single Six before she moved to California to live with my sister and brother in law. The gun had been a unwelcomed Christmas gift from my father in the early 50s. My Mom wasn't opposed to guns but she probably thought that a second Single Six (my dad already had one) was a waste of money. Even as young as I was I knew dad was in the doghouse and, as I remember, he remained there for a while.
Anyway, when she presented the gun she tried to be a little formal but couldn't because tears interupted the presentation. The only other person that will have this Ruger will be my wife. My Dad recently passed and I insisted my brother in law take my Dad's Single Six. |

I am really torn between my Buck Mark, Challenger II and my Medalist. But, I like the feel of my Challenger the best I think. It just seems to meld into my hand the best. My Medalist, even without the scope ( I have a holo red dot on it now) is just a little heavy. The Camo Camper is fun, but not the quality of the other two. My Challenger is just a really fun, accurate pistol to shoot.

Second favorite .22rf pistol, AFTER the Fialas mentioned above, is the Founding Father of the O.F.Mossberg & Sons Co.: The Mossberg Brownie.
![]() Pictured are: 1) Variation #3 (NRA VG+) with original box (rough); 2) same as 1 but better original box with papers; 3) Variation #3 (NRA VG+); 4) Variation #2.5 (NRA VG+); 5) same as 4 but better finish; 6) "Lunchbox" gun only stamped with Brownie logo and serial number (?) on two parts; 7) Variation 2 (wrong patent date) in NRA VG; 8) same as 7 but NRA VG+; 9) Variation #1 found years ago in woods by a hiking ex-LEO (cost me 3 bags of dark chocolate M&Ms!; Still works, but right grip missing, left grip homemade, and barrel latch rebuilt. 10) Variation #1 (NRA VG with only blue wear on barrel cluster. These little .22rf 4-shooters should rate highly on the collectible scale. It was the sales success of his little $5 hunk of iron and walnut that enabled Oscar and his sons to continue operating through really tough financial times, to become today America's oldest surviving, family-owned gunmaking company. Only an estimated 33,400 were produced and there will be no more. Many have tried to copy its design and sales success. NONE have even came close to matching either! ![]() It's not only the FIRST gun the company produced, it is also the ONLY handgun the company made for public sale. Yet some who say they're Mossberg collectors still write saying they weren't aware Mossberg ever made a pistol... ![]() Best regards ~ ~ ~ FFF If my brother was running as the Liberal candidate in my precinct, and a mongoloid monkey with rabies was the Conservative candidate, I would vote for the monkey. |

Ruger Single Six, accurate and the one I reach for when I want a 22. It is convertible so I have the option of 22 Mag as well.
