I might be wrong. Funny thing is, it seems like I've seen this pic a 100 times (in books and elsewhere) but I can't find it on the computer, go figure.

I do see that the Gen. in the pic has a mold or something on his cheek that Rommel didn't have, but is that something permanent or just a sore? The rank seems correct as best as I can tell from the collar tabs but even that is kinda iffy.

Most definitely NOT Rommel. This must be a very early War photo because no one is wearing a Knight's Cross at the throat. (There is, in fact, not ONE single WWII medal or award of any kind on any of those present.) Rommel would have at least worn his Pour Le Merite. Rommel was during the Invasion of France, commanding the 7th Panzer, so it would be doubtful he'd have the time to map plot with the Furher. Also, Hitler seems to be wearing his Brown Party Leaders' hat, not His C-in-C field grey one, which he adopted on Sept 1, 1939. It may be a pre-war photo of a military excercise. The unknown General has a "dueling" scar. TJ

Thumbs up Re: WWII IMAGES ~

Teejay9, You Are Very Observant Sir. Indeed You Are Correct In The Fact Of Romel Not The General In The Image. I Don't Know Who It Is Either Sir. Others In Images I Can Identify, But Have Not Gotten To It As Of Yet.

My guess is that the "mystery" General is von Brauchitsch, at that time Chief of Staff, taken with Hitler at a pre-war excercise. Also present is Himmler to Hitler's left, a police general over his right shoulder, and a Japanese officer (Oshima?) directly behind the officer facing full front to the camera. I note the absence of all decorations emanating from WWII, thus pre-war, or possibly Poland. TJ

The Rebel,

sorry I missed the post. Go to the WWII images social group by clicking on your profile. There will be a "add pictures" icon on the top right side. Then you upload from there.

While watching a history program the other night, I thought I recognized the "mystery General." I now believe it is Gen. Johannes Blaskowitz, but I could be wrong. TJ
