Default Charges Dropped Against Kindergarten Teacher

Charges Dropped Against Kindergarten Teacher Accused of Forcing Child to Eat from Trash Can

Bridgeport, Conn. (AP) - A Connecticut kindergarten teacher accused of forcing a 5-year-old student to eat food from a garbage can in her Bridgeport classroom has had criminal charges against her dropped.

The case against 67-year-old Anne O'Donnell of Fairfield was dismissed Tuesday after state prosecutor Donal Collimore told the judge he didn't believe he could prove the case.

O'Donnell was charged with risk of injury to a minor in March. Police say she was upset that the boy threw out most of his hot lunch, and she made him eat chicken nuggets and a banana from the garbage can.

The boy's mother objected to the dismissal of the case, saying she promised her son she would fight for him.

O'Donnell declined to comment after the court hearing. Her lawyer says she retired in June.

Several things about this interest me.

First, I wonder if maybe this happened to 358winchester decades ago which warped his psyche with respect to food?

Second, I can see one of my teachers doing such to me back in 1963. I don't remember for sure but I really doubt I ever threw food in the garbage can.

Third, I can see me doing it to some child in 2009.

Sounds like something I would have undergone in my youth. I remember the evening when the dog refused to eat my green beans. I had to pick them up off the floor and eat them. OR, get whomped.

While I might make my kid eat the food he threw in the garbage or on the floor (had a kid tell me one time that she was gonna get sick if she had to eat that, and I told her that if she puked on the table she was gonna eat it), but if the school teacher has got my kid eating out of the garbage can, there is gonna be problems.

If it had been me wasting food like that my Grandma would have whacked me over the head with a lunchroom tray. She worked in the cafeteria when I was in elementary school.

358 Winchester was eating dog food at my son's house.
(Ask him about the time my DIL and son took him out to Golden Corral for dinner. That was the only time I ever heard of him being embarrassed)

Some dry dog food or dog treats are just plain good (CAUTION stay away from the cat treats they cause gas)

Bob the Golden Corral story has got to die only two times in my life that I felt my self blush and that was the worst of the two. When she stated rather loudly " IF HE CARPS HIS PANTS AGAIN IT IS YOUR TURN TO CLEAN HIM I DID IT LAST TIME" I almost left without finishing lunch. But that is OK because she and Hardball are younger and will live to regret the day they took me to the Golden Corral in Albany Ga.

I'm thinking there is a lot we don't know about this story....BUT....bottom line, for me, is that there had to be a better way to handle it than making a child eat out of a garbage can.

Had a friend who had been a prisoner of the Japs in China. He would have risked a beating to get at the Jap mess trash cans. As a crewman on a B-25 he never was allowed in the area. 2 of his buddies were nearly beaten to death for raiding a garbage can. Kid got off easy. Remember, millions of Africans are starving to death.

Trouble 45-70: I'm not condoning the 5-year-old throwing away perfectly good food. There are hungry people everywhere. But he's 5...she's 67. My point was, IF she did what's alleged (I still think there's too much missing information), I think she could have been a little more creative in getting her point across about wasting food.
