One interesting thing -
I would take Digger (his name) outside for brief walks, and the wild groundhogs observed this. It convinced them that I was OK, and one of them in particular (I named him Bilbo) decided he wanted to be friends with me also. This WILD groundhog would come up to the door and scratch on it, begging food. When I was outside, he would walk up to me and sit up, begging snacks.
I would go back in the house and return with a bag of pretzils.
I would sit down in the lawn and open them, and this WILD groundhog would come right up to me, climb into my lap, sit up and eat pretzils with me.
I last saw Bilbo over a year ago, when he walked out of the woods, sat in my lap and ate some pretzils with me, then walked back into the woods -
Digger died of an apparent heart attack at just about a year old.

That's a great story. I dont think I could shoot another woodchuck with that experience.
