Sir..you should make your decision after looking and seeing some pistols..but I cant help but express again..the accuracy and reliabiltiy I have experienced with my inexpensively priced 40 ve....
I woul dhope there is a Academy sports..or cabellas or similiar near you..so that you could check one out. I hav elost a lot of weight since surgeries these last year and a half...but I also take concerns with comfortable carry options..... I have a good shoulder holster for my 1911 and a strong side molded one...and a simple nylon one w/mag pocket for the light weight Sigma... Am still 6'3" and 290 lbs...so most of the time while out ..I wear my "fanny fanny " type rig..and woul dnt take for it...$ 29.00 bu they have em for $10 and up.. |

You mentioned your hands are big and that any gun will fit... not completely true. If the grip on a weapon is too small, it could hurt when you shoot it. Or your hand may get in the way of the slide on an auto, may cut yourself with it.
Another important issue to consider is how the gun fits in your hand, it is equally important as what kind/caliber you want to carry. Some of the more popular guns will have a wide wariety of different grips to aid in fitting the gun to your hand. Like a 1911 or one of the many revolvers out there.

best thing for you to do is to try some friends guns out if you can... go to a gunstore and hold everything in there... dont let everyone else tell you what you need, because you need to decide for yourself.... if you want one that is too much money, save a few months. you said you bought a rifle... carry it in your trunk. until you get a pistol |

A taurus judge would work well. Great stopping power costs about as much as a glock and with the right holster concealable.

Are you using the word, "pistol", as a synonym for "handgun"? Most folks thesedays take it to mean, "semiautomatic" or "autoloading" handgun, exclusively. Or were you looking for revolver recommendations too?
Btw, as to buying a cheap gun, forget it. Save your pennies and buy something good. This isn't gasoline that you have to buy every week such that a few cents per gallon will make a difference. Spring the big bucks and get something durable, reliable, and which will fit your hand comfortably. Anything smaller than a .38 or 9mm will only make your assailants angry. Anything larger is too much flash/bang/recoil. Accuracy counts more than caliber, so practice, practice, practice. Count on spending way more on ammo than you will on the price of a good gun.

I agree completely guns are addicting. You get a new one and then you love it for a while, and then you still love it but you want another one because theres something better about it or the way it looks they are just addicting once you get into them. And also thanks for the advice. STEVE

If you are looking for something for grins I suggest the FNP45. I got one a few months back and I really like it.

The Springfield XD line of pistols will give you a very dependable pistol with extra safeties that some do not possess. They come in 9 mm, 40 cal and 45 cal and have options for full size to compact frames.
