Those grips are very unique on the 17-6. Are they molded special?

nope, they're not 'molded', they're wood. they were a standard item on that model. I don't think they were available for any other gun but I could be mistaken.

I have a S&W Model 18 as well, but I'd like to get a Model 17-6 someday.

I started out with a High Standard Double Nine in 1956 at age 14, but when I went to college my mother gave the gun to my uncle. The Double Nine was a great gun for learning how to shoot revovlers. Now I have a Ruger Super Single Six which goes to the range every time.

I have a wonderful S&W Model 17 in six inch that is probably the most accurate revolver I have. I keep it in the kitchen so I can shoot rabbits in the backyard with CB caps. This keeps the noise level down to an acceptable level!

Like the OP, my Rossi 4" goes with me every trip to the range and sometimes my Ruger Single Six.
![]() http://www.apt401.com/s6.jpg usually along with a .22 auto, my Walther P22, Browning Buckmark, or High Standard Supermatic Trophy.

Used to be able to say yes but no longer and not for some time now. I miss them and have been thinking about getting another one lately. And now, you guys have me really wanting another! I sold off my 18 and then my 17 a few years ago and could kick myself now.... but maybe I'll just have to do some shopping around and remedy the situation.
This post is a good excuse... er, inspiration. ![]() |

I too have a 17-4 in 6" I only wish I was as good a shot as the gun would be with a better shooter. My daughter-in-law wants it but I'll never let it go!
In passing, does anyone make a speed loader for it? I'd line to compete in the Ruger Rimfire challenge, but don't want to buy another .22 handgun right now.

We love shooting our MKIII and also just purchased a new Single Six.
.22LR is so much fun (and cheap) to shoot we are already lining up our next several purchases. Next is the NAA mini .22 revolver! |

Heritage Rough Rider, both .22 and .22 mag cylinders, accurate and cheap fun. Used to have a Ruger Mk I, but I waste less ammo with the revolver.

I shoot a pair of 17's 6 and 83/8 same in 48. All 4 are extremely accurate and the Mod 48 's are good coyote killers.

I have a H&R Sportsman Doubleaction that shoots great and I carry it far more often than my Browning Buckmark. In fact I thinking of selling my big bore autos and buyng revolvers back. They are simple and I plainly like'm.

I probably shoot my .22 caliber rimfires more than any other of my pistols and revolvers..
An old friend of mine gave me this H&R 922 ![]() I inherited this H&R 923 ![]() I got this at an auction H&R Victor a seven shot revolver in nice shape ![]() I am including this pic to show the size difference of the Victor ![]() The old revolvers are fun to shoot and very accurate. I have some newer revolvers that I will have to get pics of...

I too really enjoy a good round of shooting fun with my 22cal revolvers. I currently have a model 95B Taurus 9 shot, a Western Auto Revelation mod. 76 9 shot, a High Standard double nine 9 shot, 2- H&R 929 9 shot, a Western Ranger 6 shooter, an old than the hills Herbert Schmidt cowboy action 6 shooter. and several 22 cal auto's. But the most accurate is the Taurus. I usually take a different one out to shoot every time I go out to the woods. I have a shooting course outback that is a hoot... and I get some excersize at the same time...
But by and by the 22 cal guns are the best way to go... the big bore guns make a bigger bang and are fun to shoot once in awhile but to shoot like I do, mostly every day wouldn't even be practical even if I reloaded... I usually go through about 1000 rounds a week... no dust settles on my guns.
