Question What if Glock made a 1911?

I am wondering why Glock never made a 1911 pistol? Would the Glockophiles and 1911 crowd both jump on them? Would Glock take over the 1911 world if they decided to jump on the bandwagon?

I do own a Glock and love it. I am not asking this just to start the Glock vs the world thread. I just wonder why Glock never offered a 1911 Mil-Spec that could rock the gun world.

Who would buy one if they did offer one? I know that a single stack .45 is not a 1911. I'm talking about the same 1911 that we all know and love. Any interest out there? Just wondering on a slow evening.....

The late Col. Jeff Cooper once wrote that he went to WW II with a Colt SAA convinced that it was the best handgun ever devised. He quickly changed hi mind in battle, and got a GI 1911A1.

Today many people think of the 1911 as Cooper did of the SAA. While the 1911 and the SAA are still excellent handguns (especially in the hand of a "Pistolerro", there are in fact better handguns for most police and civilian personal defense users, today. {By the way, I wore a 1911A1 as regular as my trousers for 30 years. I am quite proficient in its use; but I no longer carry one.}

The sad thing is, it would still be 'just a glock' and not a true 1911.

Glock refuses to make their 40s properly... getting them to make a 1911... well, thats like a moon landing. It ain't gonna happen.

I love their 9s, 45s, and especially their fullsize 10mm G20 which will be my next purchase. But i don't mess with their 40s.

The next time you are in a gunshop...take one of those 40s apart and look at the thin sides on that 40 chamber. That metal is so thin its scary. The dumb b*st*rds shoved a thinner barrel into the 9mm frame instead of making a whole new pistol that was SLIGHTLY wider.
Combine the thin chamber with the unsupported area by the feed ramp and i don't feel good about their 40 at all.

I have a first and second generation Glock17. I am a devout 1911 operator.
While the Glock may not be the way of the world, it does it`s job in 9mm.
Built like a tank and always goes bang, if I feel the need for a larger caliber, I move from the 9mm to the 45acp, no in between for me.
I do like the 1911 platform in 38 GOVERNMENT SUPER, loaded the way it was originally designed. It`s somewhat spendy to feed .If Glock made a 1911, then it wouldn`t be a Glock;would it??

hmmmm, a dishwasher safe 1911??? It just doesnt seem right.

Mike, I fully agree with you about the glock .40s. My wifes cousin has a compact Glock .40 and its waaaaay thin in the chamber. I pointed that out to him and now he wants to trade it off. Glocks are best in thier original 9mm form. Leave the .45 to colonel colt and his clones... If you like glocks and want a .40 get an XD or XDM. Springfield also makes an excellent .45 XD, but I still prefer the 1911 to fire my .45s...

I have owned several G21 45acp pistols. They are more durable than you would think. A friend that reloaded talked me into running some hot reloads thru my first G21. We tried our darndest to destroy that G21 and could not get it done. I traded that G21 at a gunshop that was owned by a guy who hated glocks. He did not carry them but took them in trade. He and one of his employees took it out and tried to overheat it to see if it could be damaged. That was back before ammo was so absurdly expensive. They ran several thousand rounds thru it in one setting. He said they weren't even aiming.....
His opinion changed...and shortly after that he had a full line of new glocks that he carried in his gunshop. They even had their own display case. He even carried the factory compensated models. He had the biggest Glock selection of any gunshop in the area.

There are people out there that don't like Glocks. Its their loss.....

I am ACHING to buy a G20c "10mm" Fullsize Glock with a factory comp!!!!!!!!
Now THAT would be one zombie killin son of a gun....
Change out the sights to 3 dot night sights.... oh my.....

If you desire a Glock "type" 1911 then Wilson is about as close as it gets. SPEC-OPS 9

A polymer framed carry pistol with a proven 16 round metal magazine, 1911 style fire control system, completely new barrel lockup and reengineered recoil system scaled for the 9x19 cartridge-all under 30 ounces unloaded. Add Wilson Combat’s legendary heritage for steadfast quality and you get the perfect high capacity 9mm for range or street with the following cutting edge features:

• The unique, mid-length, reduced mass slide design generates minimal muzzle flip with any 9mm loading and is trimmer in every dimension than a standard 1911 slide. Angled front carry cuts enable easy reholstering and press checking while adding a distinctive custom profile.

• The all new, premium grade 416 stainless steel barrel with enhanced lockup geometry is ideally matched to the recoil impulse and pressure of even the hottest 9mm loading. The SPEC-OPS 9 chamber area has been likewise strengthened and the muzzle smoothly interfaces directly into the precision bored slide without the need for a separate bushing.

• The stainless steel frame rail assembly is CNC machined from solid billet steel to exacting dimensions and permanently fused to the polymer grip for unfailing, precise rigidity. Unlike other polymer 1911 style guns, this grip is guaranteed to never come loose when you least expect it.

• The SPEC-OPS 9’s Kevlar and Zytel reinforced polymer grip has Wilson Combat’s popular Starburst pattern molded in for the perfect amount of traction in varied conditions and enhanced concealed carry comfort over traditional grip designs.

• A reduced profile grip safety tang and unique, matching hammer reduce the concealment footprint profile of the SPEC-OPS 9 over a traditional 1911.

• The SPEC-OPS 9 retains the extensively tested Wilson KZ-9 16 round double column magazine for ultimate in 9mm feed reliability. The tapered magazine ensures rapid reloading under stress.

• The new low-profile sighting system is perfectly scaled to the SPEC-OPS 9 slide’s reduced width and height. The front sight is easily end-user removable from its longitudinal dovetail.

It doesn't have a radial lug in the 1911 sense. The upper part of the chamber locks in the front of the ejection port (Lug 1) like a Glock. You have the 2 lower lugs like a 1911 (lug 2) and also an oversized breechface/hood area (lug 3). All are fitted for a solid 3 point lockup.

I think Glocks are very reliable and accurate guns and at one point I had 3 of them. I sold them all not because they weren't great guns but because I didn't like the feel of them or they way they shot. I prefer German made older Sig's and that's what I have except for a mildly Custom Colt Government 1911 and a Custom Norinco 1911A1.

Somehow I just can't image a Glock 1911 but if they made one it would shoot well and be accurate or they would not bring it out unlike the Sig 1911.

Glock and accurate should never be used in the same sentence.

While some are posting, I'm shooting at the range.
This pic is a 4" target shot at 50 yards with my Kimber Custom Target. Twenty rounds...count um. See if your Glock will do the same.

Sam... i thought we allready had the discussion about how the Glock is sooo much more RELIABLE for protecting loved ones at home as opposed to being a long range "Plinker"....? What gives??

Wink Re: What if Glock made a 1911?

Hey guys, how about this: both have their place. Glock is the workhorse, reliable, you can count on it everytime and it will get the round where the target is. While easy to maintain and takes little maintence, no one has ever accused it of being a beauty queen. No, but it gets the job done every time.

Now the 1911 is a marvel. How in the h__ did someone come up with a gun that still feels better in my hand than anything made in the last century? How is it has a delicious trigger and is a beauty queen all its own? Its like the car you can customize and it roars in a way only lions do. Its a man's man's gun. Proven in battle over an over. Unstopable for a century. Somebody stand up and salute!

Me? I carry a G26, shoot a G17 in GFFS but still love my Colts. Wouldn't be without a 1911!

I have a Colt Combat elite that is awesome to behold and a couple of Texas Ranger custome 1911s.

As Mr. R. King once said, "Can't we all just get along?"

One thing about the 1911 trigger... i need it light. My Colts were about right out of the box as well as the Kimbers. The Dan Wesson needed to be lightened up a bit.
When the 1911 trigger takes too much pull to set it off i can't shoot it for squat....

You're not alone Mike but the trigger can be lightned without a trigger job. Not as light but a difference you can tell.
