Your right, this is exactly what the anti-gunners are looking for to help seal their case. This is nothing more than "touting". He is trying to "prove" something, which in turn will backfire and cost responsible folks their freedoms. This is not "responsible open carry"

Amen popgunner. I think just about anyone would be alarmed these days at seeing someone carrying a long gun in a mall. Seeing a rifle displayed in this way implies you are ready to use it. If he needed to take his rifle with him for some legitimate reason, it should have been in a rifle case. I realize we have the right to bear arms but the public has a right not to feel threatened. In this case I believe it comes down to "what a reasonable person would perceive as a threat".

no, the public does not have the right not to feel threatened.

they have the right not to be threatened, but not to not feel threatened if they aren't being threatened.

there is a fine line between a persons rights, when others feel threatened by my guns their rights and mine cross paths. if the mere presence of the gun is what bothers them then my rights win,but if i am using my gun to intimidate them in some way, then their rights win

you're right, it isnt responsible.

but the way you talk indicates we are at the mercy of the law makers. kinda like, lets hope they dont make it illegal to carry guns. when i think the way you, and everyone talks should change to, "we have the right and we'll use our guns in defense of our rights if you try to take them away"

Well, we are faced with ALOT of gun laws we dont agree with already. I totally agree with open carry and wish it were the law of the land. There are groups of anti gunners that are loaded with lies and out of context information and alot of cash. They are waiting to pounce on ANYTHING and everything they possibly can. The NRA and others that fight these people are doing a pretty good job of keeping them at bay. But, unfortunatley, if people start pacing in front of malls with AR-15s, even the lawmakers that are in our favor will begin to be swayed in the other direction. I think there are many ways to open carry responsibly without trying to make a spectical of yourself. He was asking for the attention. Thats my 2 cents.

yeah you're right double d. just i get so frustrated because of them dang gun grabbing politicians. they dont care anything about the constitution or what the people want. that should be the cue for us gun owners and constitutionalists to reset the government, exactly like the founding fathers envisioned when they set the 2nd amendment in place.

perhaps we could start some kind of gun rights movement similar to the tea party. we need to do something though instead of letting them trim our rights a little at a time, before it's too late. before there is no one left with the will to fight.

John, I share your frustration. But, to think we have come so far that we are NOT at the mercy of the lawmakers, is just not the case. If more supreme court justices were to retire on bozos watch, we would continue to suffer more blows as he appointed his leftist lunatics to "write the laws" and not to "enforce current laws". This is what we are up against. If the 2nd ammendment was honored to the letter, all carry laws would be abolished and the people would have the right to openly carry everywhere. But its not like that. Heck, some states do not allow carry at all. We are STILL subject to lawmakers.

POPGUNNER I am west of the Great Divide. Rawlins is 250 east of my place on the Bear River. I am on the Utah Idaho border in the SW corner of the state. I have hunted "Goats" in the Little Colorado Desert NE of Labarge. I took a nice buck at Buck Horn Wells with my 45-110 Sharps in 95'. I hunted the big desert east of Ft. Bridger for "Goats" this past Sept. The buck looked good in the scope at 300 yds. Turned out the ivory was broken off the left horn. Elk is hunting is the best it has been in years. We hunt the Mtns south of here mostly at the 9,000' level in Oct. We have 1,000 head wintering elk 6 miles from my place on the Utah border. Pop if you need some info PM me.

Florida is considering open carry for persons with CCW permits. I think it is a bad idea. We had it before in the early 80's during the Cuban boat lift. Miami was like the wild west.

What is the problem with that? They're carrying now just the same! Don't fool yourself... Us law abiding citizens are the ones who do our best to follow the law. The bad guys are going to carry no matter what the law is. The best crime deterrent in the world are well trained, well armed citizens.

we as gun owners need to show everyone that no matter what laws they make we will not be subjected to infringements on our rights. sure we might get good judges or have good laws. but at any time it can turn and we could go to complete restriction. but what im saying is that we have the right to carry, own and use guns no matter the law and we need to make it be known that we're willing fight over it if you try to infringe on our rights. or at least this is the way i feel. i really dont care how gun owners look or what people think, i have the right to carry a gun. if they make it illegal i'll still carry, and if they try to stop me, i will fight.. and die before i give up my right. the little stuff like barrel length and full auto and such makes no difference in the long run, but i follow the law to a T until they say i cant carry a gun, then i become a criminal. i dont feel that it's wrong to fight against those that would deny me the rights god gave me. even if it means killing and being killed in the process.

i know my opinion aint popular with gun owners in general, i dont really care. i just wish i didnt feel as if i was the only one like this. i know a couple that share the same views, but all gun owners should, not just me and my brother and wife.

what we need to do is get some people in the nra that will speak for us as i would. because the nra is the largest pro gun voice in the country and offer an ultimatum, either abolish the gun laws that illegally and unconstitutionally infringe on our rights or we'll put people in office that will, by vote or force.

i know this makes me sound radical and violent, im not. im a constitutionalist, and im right peaceable. right up until you try to take something from me. my life, my wife, my rights, my guns, my country.

I was a law enforcement road patrol deputy for 12 years here in Florida. Persons who go through the prescribed course and pass the test to carry a weapon do very little follow up training on their own,let alone practice handgun retention. Open carry, in my eyes from the individuals I have encountered,is a bad idea unless you are shopping for a new pistol. Then you can just take one from grandpa.

the same could be said about some law enforcement officers.

there are irresponsible people in every aspect of life. the point is not if open carry is the best option, or even if it's safe for all to do so, but that it is a right that cannot be taken away.

if you start restricting people by saying that what they do could be dangerous eventually people will not be allowed to own any guns, or bb guns, or knives, because there is always some idiot in the batch that will foul up with whatever he happens to have

You make persuasive arguments John. I guess it comes down to the fact that I personally don't feel open carry is a wise choice in a society where most are unaccustomed to seeing it. I'd feel different I suppose in more rural areas of western states where it's more prevalent. But you are right..it IS our right.

I used to agree with you. I did 20+ years on the road, FTO, and many other units... and now Im back at it as a Training Officer in a Kentucky Jail. Now after I retired from the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office in 2006 and moved to Kentucky where there is open carry... I have to say I love it. No bad problems out of the usual. Let me be the first to tell you there are some backwoods good ol' boys up here that just don't give a damn, so you would figure it would be the wild west, right? Well, it isn't. Open carry is a damn good deterrent, and not the hell on earth that many people who don't live in open carry states think it is.
