Thats the thing he will settle for a lightly used M200 but he wants what he wants and there probably isnt any convincing him otherwise. Lookin for a Factory M200 for around that price.

When it comes to weapons like these "break-in" is of particular importance. Therefore, unless I knew the person - I would be purchasing NEW.

This is a bit off-topic, but I gotta ask:
Does anyone think it would be possible or practical to modify an existing rifle (like a .416 or something) and still get something like sub-MOA performance? 'Cuz that would be much cheaper. If it would work. ![]() |

By modify, I mean find something used but in good condition-- maybe a 470 or something. Take it to a good gunsmith, re-machine the bolt, chamber, and barrel. (Well, probably not the bolt, but anyway.)
I'm not saying it'd be cheap, just probably a lot less than building one from scratch -- IF it would work. Whatta ya think? |

i mean sure you can build your own you match grade rifle but its not going to be the same as a cheytac. but i dont know of any barrel mfgs that make .408 match barrels. Also would the 470 bolt fit the .408 case?

These are the guys that are making the Chey Tac barrels. http://www.lawtonmachine.com/barrels.html Lawton also makes the actions, although I prefer the BAT actions below. http://www.lawtonmachine.com/actions_8000.html (sorry for the original post. I did a little more homework on the .408. )BAT actions. Starting price $1350 http://batmachine.com/products/products.htm Look for the model "L" action. Art

All gun manufacturers have break in procedures for their products. Usually in in the manual. But their websites ought to have the info. |

Where does he plan on shooting this thing? There aren't anyplaces near me where I can shoot a gun like that to it's full ability because it would mean shooting over a highway and/or someone's house in a valley. The highway part being totally illegal. And I don't imagine people are okay with me shooting over their house, here in New York we need permission to do that kind of thing.

Damned if I know. The .408 is based off the old .505 Gibbs (I think), and that's a huge case. I mean, you can always take more metal out of a reciever, but would it retain enough strength to work? Beats me. I just chose the 470 as an example.
