Default Winchester Model 70 30-06 when was it made and whats its worth?

I was recently given my grandfathers Winchester Model 70 30-06. I am not sure of the year it was made but believe it to be pre '64. I also am not sure of the worth. It is in brand new condition and has not had many rounds put thru it. There has been a scope added to it. The scope was mounted with Leupold scope mounts and is a Tasco scope. the barrel is stamped with Winchester Model 70-30-06 SPRG Made in New Haven Conn. U.S.A. winchester proof steel on the left side on the right side is the serial number G1248274. There are no knicks or dings in the stock and the inside of the barrel is not pitted or rusted and is very clean. I have included some pictures

Kelie, your gun for sure is a post 1964 and I would be guessing at the value of around $400.00. I know values of pre 64 model 70 far better than I do post 64 and I invite to be corrected on my guess.

howdy kelie. your gun doesnt look like it's in perfect condition, although better photos would help, the checkering on the stock is dull. either the gun has been handled a lot, shot a lot or carried hunting a lot, or the stock has been refinished. there is some finish (blueing) wear on the muzzle. i would probably say 400 to 450.

Your Winchester does not have a floorplate and the stock appears to be hardwood and not walnut. I expect this is a no-frills model 70, similar rifles are marked "Ranger" and earlier model 670. My first rifle was a 30/06 Winchester 670 and I currently own another Winchester 670 that I prize very much. They are perfectly good rifles as reliable and accurate as any Winchester. Retail around here would run $350 to $400.

Guys are right on for the value. Expect $350 to $450 in these parts. I've had a pre-64 Model 70, and while it was a great rifle, my post 64 was always my go to hunting rifle. Mine is a close kin of yours. Really smooth action on mine, and accurate as all get-out with 180 grain reloads and IMR-4350 powder.

If you plan to use it hunting, expect to replace the front sight hood. Those dang things get lost easy while hunting. I've gone thru 4 in the last 20 years with mine. Your grandfather had a good hunting set-up there. You can be proud to have inherited it from him!

Hello Everyone - I have a Winchester Model 70 XTR Featherweight in 30-06 SPRG. The serial is G1732406. Can you help me date it? I would also like to determine what it is worth. Thanks so much!

It is not a true "Winchester", and it was manufactured in the mid 1980s.
