While a man was polishing his new car, his 4 yr old son picked up a
stone and scratched lines on the side of the car. In anger, the man took the child's hand and hit it many times; not realizing he was using a wrench. At the hospital, the child lost all his fingers due to multiple fractures. When the child saw his father - with painful eyes he asked, Dad when will my fingers grow back?' The man was so hurt and speechless; he went back to his car and kicked it a lot of times. Devastated by his own actions - sitting in front of that car he looked at the scratches; the child had written: 'LOVE YOU DAD'. The next day that man committed suicide. Anger and love have no limits; choose the latter to have a beautiful, lovely life.. Things are to be used and people are to be loved, But the problem in today's world is that, people are used and things are loved.... During this year, let's be careful to keep this thought in mind: Things are to be used, but people are to be loved ... Be yourself - This is the only day we HAVE. Have a nice day and best regards Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions; they become habits. Watch your habits they become character; Watch your character; it becomes your destiny. I'm glad a friend forwarded this to me as a reminder.. God bless you; I hope you are having a wonderful day!

My kids ( 2 daughters) did that to my newly painted Chevy truck some years back, riding their bikes alongside it in the driveway.
Initially mad, didn't scold them, internalized it, and while looking at the paint job noticed that it wan't the greatest paint job anyway, the truck was 10 years old, After 15 min it was a non issue. Don't have that truck anymore, Still have the kids love though. A good lesson.

My son removed all the hand stitched sails,
broke the top spar of the for'sel, and removed the anchor and capst'n from a hand made replica of old Ironsides. I shook my head and told him that was daddys favorite ship Why did you do that? He started to cry. So a gave him a cheap model of a plastic Caravan and told him to go ahead and take it apart. He hasn't touched any of my models since. We sometimes forget what it's like to be a child.

Kids do dumb things and they are going to damage items you think are precious. Too bad it is after the blind rage that they realize what really is precious.

Thank you Thomas.... Indeed we can be consumed by anger. I've never had reason to yell at my child, let alone strike him. A few stearn words and a 'look' would bring him to tears. Lesson learned. Thank you fedupon for the story. It should have been posted in general conversation. Will a mod please move?

Yeah..... my Brother has EAD (Explosive Anger Disorder), & I fear it's only a matter of time before something bad will happen between him & his 3yr old Daughter.

Always remember they are Children. Those kids are more important than any object in your household hands down. That is one thing we as parents overlook from time to time when something gets broken beyond repair. Its OK to punish and scold but to all out becouse the family car got scratched or they broke something. Dont get me wrong it makes you wnat to pinch thier little heads off and flip em on the nose but hey they are our legacy.

That really tears me up. Sometimes, when my son is being especially ornery I 'll snap at him. Five minutes later, I feel like a big pile of crap. I'm just happy he accepts my apologies. I promised myself before my son was born, that if I ever laid a harmful hand on him, I would cut it off. Maybe, that's a contract all parents must sign at birth.

*sigh*
Fedupdon, I realize you are only trying to pass along a good message, but I have to vent a little. Please dont take offense. I read your post. I read it, and now I am sorry I did. It churned me up inside. I was suckered into it - total absorbtion into the story. The irony too sad, and way over the top in credibility. (The guy was polishing his car with a wrench?) I did not need that today. It is obviously one of the stupid email chain letters people just feel compelled to forward to everyone on their mailing list. Other than the message they contain, the stories are all contrived. Not one shred of truth. Sorry I'm being a downer. I just hate those letters. I typically delete before reading any emails that say FW: in the title.

The ex and one of her boyfriends got a scolding from her father about the filth they were living in (his mobile home). The boyfriebd took it a little too badly, walked to the tavern, got liquered up and returned home.
He then took out a shotgun and decorated the ceiling with his brains. Fortunately, our son was with me at the time. True story Powderhorn.

Exactly. I have enough real stuff stirring up my emotions without some made up story that's supposed to choke me up. That has nothing to do about the message that we should take time to think about what really matters. Parables are fine in the right venue. But the people writing these chain emails are not Jesus and I find in most cases have nothing to teach me of which I'm not already painfully aware. |
