Default Hunting Rabbit with a Ferret

For hunters only please. As there has been some interest in our year round shooting rabbits and squirrels, I thought you might be interested in a pastime here, hunting rabbit with a ferret. In short, the holes to the warren (What do you call a man with a rabbit down his pants? Warren) are covered with a net and the ferret sent in. Some people attach a locater collar to the ferret to help get him back!

Hunters only please, this is the Hunting forum. The video shows a rabbit being killed.

Looks interesting. I have owned ferrets but here in the states I believe its illeagle in most places to use them for hunting.

That was very interesting. I have not ever seen or heard of this before. I was also surprised by how passive the ferrets were when handled.

Where can I get a net like that? I bet my Jack russel terrier would like to hunt that way! That would be awesome for the ground hog tearing up my family's farm too.

I dont do it myself, (except once with a friend), but its one of the most effective way of hunting rabbits. I was thinking of taking it up but i have enugh animals to take care of. For anyone thinking of doing it heres some tips i was given:
Send the ferret down with its stomach 'half full'. Too hungry and it might stay down there, too full and it wont bother hunting.
When beginning, use a female as they are a bit small and less likely to kill and eat down the burrow.
These are tips given to me by someone who used to hunt with ferrets. Its very big in Britain and to a lesser extent Ireland
