Default Springfield 1903. What are these markings?

I got this rifle from my grandfather before he died. I guess it has been 'sporterized.'

Anyways, I was wondering if anyone know what these markings means?

One more thing. Loading a round into the chamber has started to get harder. When I extract the case I can see 1/3 of a circle cut around the primer. Any ideas?

Could you post a pic of the fired casing? It would help us figure out what is happening. Regards, Kirk

Sure... when my wife gets home. I have no idea how to work her overly-complicated camera.
