"The 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld ordinances barring the ownership of handguns in most cases in Chicago and suburban Oak Park, Ill.

Judge Frank Easterbrook, an appointee of President Ronald Reagan, said that "the Constitution establishes a federal republic where local differences are to be cherished as elements of liberty rather than extirpated in order to produce a single, nationally applicable rule."

Pro gun congressmen recently gave lots of trouble to Justice Sonia Sotomayor, because she reached a similar conclusion in a New York gun ban case when she was a Federal appeals court judge. Now we have a Republican Reagan appointee doing the exact same thing. This provides evidence for my theory that gun owners cannot fully trust Republicans nor Democrats with the 2nd Amendment.

But now the good news: The U.S. Supreme Court is going to hear the above case some time in 2010. I fully expect local gun bans such as those of NYC and Chicago will be found as unconstitutional as the Washington D.C. ban.

For all of our imperfections the U.S.A. is a great nation - moving forward.
