I was talking to a friend last night (nite), some how the movie "ZULU" came into our conversation, and I told him that I had always wanted a Martini Henry rifle. He told me that another friend of ours (firearms dealer) keeps a stock of them, in different calibers. Then my friend said, do you want a Martini Henry (greener sg) shotgun. "How much" I asked, it's free if you want it
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() So my shotgun licence application was posted to the police today .(Daft UK gun Laws). I was wondering, if anybody on this forum, owns/uses one of these shotguns. It's 12g not the silly Egyptian police issue. A photo of a Greener SG Martini Henry.

Hi Charlie
I have not used one but there are a few about over here in NZ, I think in common with most Martinis they have a very strong action and should go on for ever. I have worked on a few Martinis and have just found that they full of crap in the action so when you get it would pay to strip it down and give it a good clean up. I don't know if the Greener is exactly the same but this web site gives some good instructions on stripping them down http://www.martinihenry.com/apart.htm Cheers Enfield |

I am not certain, but I think a few of these came to the USA with shorter than normal (and of course unchoked) barrels for use as "Line throwing Guns".
Pictures or possibly Gun Show examples had a wood storage chest with several large diameter arrows and light rope. I think some may have been used by the USN and/or US Coast Guard. |

Thanks for the link (Enfield) and I would like to find out if the USN or Coastguard used them (Hammerslagger).
I now have my Greener, and I really enjoy shooting it. Now I'm thinking about a Martini Henry rifle.

I don't think the USN ever used them.

I think this may be the "Navy" link to this gun.
"Navy Arms imported and rebuilt them", taken from this link. http://levergunscommunity.org/viewto...st=0&sk=t&sd=a

No, Charlie, that is just a coincidence in the names.
Below are reprints of the official, W.W. Greener, Martini Henry line-throwing guns. http://www.cornellpubs.com/old-guns/...p?item_id=1379 http://www.cornellpubs.com/old-guns/...p?item_id=1380 http://www.cornellpubs.com/diva/diva...mp;x=&s=15
