Here in Texas, a person's SS# is REQUIRED in order to get a hunting or fishing license. What is the purpose of that? SS# is not for ID as it states that on the SS card issued by the government. With all the problems nowadays of ID theft, why does everyone want a SS#? I refuse to do so and never give it to anyone on the phone, but it is ridiculous to use that number. The state could just a easy print a sequence number on the license and use that. More government intrusion. Bah!

Here the state allows you a choice: an ID number or your social. Used to be just the social until problems started arising.
I agree with you. I refuse to give it out, even to a doctors' office, specially if I'm paying then and there for the service. Makes them hopping mad, too. Drives me nuts too, that banks don't ask for picture ID anymore, just have you run your debit card. |

In Colorado they use the ss# to check for bad support payments as well as
other illegal activities. It does not show up on the issued license. |
