My Buddy who lives in the upper penninsula of michigan needed a gun. We talked about knock down power because the area is extremley thick and hard to track through. Long story short we both bought 45-70's and love them. My buddy decided to be a costansa and not buy a scope and hit the deer at 65yrds. with irons. i include that because it was an aweful shot but look at the damage. He used hornady's lever-evolution 325 grain.

Man thats tuff to look at. I have seen it twice, Once with a 45/70 and with a 3006.The only thing we could think of was the angle of the shot. Both of ours were quartering away maybe 75 - 100yds. It almost looks like the bullet came apart and pushed hair, meat and bone clear throught. The deer we shot were only torn up on one side. I could be wrong this is just my 2cents worth.

If I get the chance to buy a new gun it's going to be a 450 marlin, which is basically a 45-70+P rifle.I got the .444 marlin right now,but I want to go bigger!
