A question for other single six owners: does your gun shoot the 22 mags as accurately as the regular 22s? I can shoot a respectable group with the reg 22 but switch to the mags and i look like a rookie putting shots all over the paper. What's going on?

I shoot the federal value pack 22 lr. For 22 mags I've got 40 grain cci fmj and 33 remington accu-tip v's.

I don't know, for sure, if this is true, but it make sense.
22LR uses a .223 bullet, while 22 magnum uses a .224. That's true. What I've heard is, some makers of combo guns use a 223 barrel, so they shoot LR better. Some use a 224 barrel, so they shoot the magnums better. Some rifle their barrel somewhere in between (2235), so they shoot both pretty good. If there's any truth to that, maybe your gun has a 223 barrel, and just likes the LR better. 'Course, it could just be - 22s being notoriously ammo-picky - it happens to like the brand of LR you are using, but just don't like the brand of magnums. Do like the worm suggested. Try some other brands.

I have seen a couple posts referencing the Ruger 3-screw single-sixes w/mag cylinder as shooting the 22 mag better because they were made with the .224 barrel. I have the 3-screw, but have not shot enough .22 mag on paper to be able to answer whether it shoots better with the mag or the regular LR. I don't have any info on the 2cd generation.

My SS actually shoots better with the .22wmr cylinder in place versus the .22lr one.

Well, I think this calls for more extensive shooting practices

I've had my single six for I would guess about 30 years and it shoots the mags more accurately than it does the 22lr!

my single six is over thirty years old,it shoots both equally well.however after saying that i will admit at one time i let my barrel lead up and accuracy went to hell.i would suggest to make sure to delead barrel and also try different ammo,i think that will take care of your problem old semperfi

I have an old 3 screw, bought it in 1965. It has always shot .22mag better than LR. The single six & 2 rifles all like the 40gr Winchester better than the CCI

I have a New Model Single Six that I tried every 22 Mag load out there in, nothing even came close to my 22 LR cylinder which shoots just about anything good. CCI Mini Mags and Winchester Hyper-Speed 40 gr. shoot the best.
