Default Sig Sauer .40 vs. 9mm

Got a question. I am looking through GunBrokers.com and am getting closer to making my purchase. I am holding out for a Sig 229 as my PC and am a little confused as to why the price difference between the 9mm and .40/.357 caliber. It is several hundred dollars. Is it just a popularity issue? The 9mm sells better.....so they jack the price up a bit? I know the ammo is more expensive with .40, but I am willing to spend the extra money on ammo for a firearm that is better all around. If it just happens to be cheaper for the hardware, then it's bonus round. So.......

There's that big a difference between the 9mm and the .40? The price of a Walther P99 runs the same whether it's 9mm or .40S&W. Same with the PPS. Strange. Have you checked the prices in the local gun stores?

I'm seeing the same thing at the dealers. http://www.tiny9.com/u/Sig_229 all I can think is supply and demand, there must be a large demand for the 9mm version somewhere. If you look at it the 40 has 3 mags and the 9mm has 2 mags also.

From what I've seen, SIG doesn't seem to make nearly as many 9mm of the P229. It's almost always in .40. On the other hand, whenever I see a P226, it is usually a 9mm. I think that's just how they've been making them, so if you want the "odd" configuration, you have to pay more for it.

quarrying equiptment was like that. Smaller pnumatic drills were in less demand and sat on store shelves longer...but there was still demand enough to make them.
The smaller the drill the higher the price. A fraction of the parts or metal used to make them... it was all about turn around on selling them and volumes produced. If they have to change out tooling to make a few its allways more expensive per unit.

No I haven't. Just online. The gun store (singular in this town) has prices raised about 20% comparitively. So I do my work online before I present my asking price to them. I ALWAYS try to keep my business local before messing around with those I cannot see. .....but I start my queries with the invisible ones first to get a good idea.

Springfield's EMP models are priced differently, the 9mm is more than the .40. I have never been a fan of 9mm, but I sure like the .40.

You can buy a barrel from these folks that permits you to shoot 9mm from a 40 or 357 P229, using 9mm magazines. Buy a 40, if it is too much, get the barrel, later if you can handle the 40 just put it back.

My Ruger P94 is in 40 and it is a decent caliber and the Ruger is rugged, reliabel and accurate. SIG makes an excellent pistol and if it were me I'd go for the 40 particularily if it is less expensive.

Talking Re: Sig Sauer .40 vs. 9mm

I have the P226 in both 40 S&W and 9mm and my P226 40S&W is definitely the better shooter in terms of the trigger pull and smoothness and over all accuracy. I also bought the 357 Sig barrel for the p226 40S&W and it drops riight in and you use the same magazines.

The 9mm P226 is a great gun and mine is a German made gun from the 1994 and I really like it but the 40S&W is my favorite out of the two.

Some of the teaching gun experts like Gabe have kind of leaned toward the nines now. More rounds to destroy the targets. This using the personal protection rounds. Ball or FMJ bullets, bigger is better to stop aggressions.
Myself carry is Glocks in 40 SW. However should there ever be a shortage of 40 ammo, then a $100 drop in match Lone Wolf barrel exchange with a hand ful of 9mm mags, takes a couple of minutes to be back in business in that caliber. The beauty of the Glock is most can do the drop in parts and use what you want. Also have some stick magazines in both calibers, I guess because I can. The 9mms hold a couple of more rounds than the 40s, but not enough to go toward either one. I just happen to like the 40s and the 180grs at 1000fps is very close to 45 ACP.
