With $1000.00 budget you can afford the high in 9 mm. Based on your list I would choose Hi Power Browning, Beretta 92FS, CZ75b, Springfield XD9, Sig Pro SP2022
. Now if you want to buy a good 9mm and spend the rest on ammo how about the Ruger P95, Bersa Thunder 9 High Capacity,Ruger P89 and I know some would turnup their nose but a Hi Point C9 comp should be considered. I don't have a lot of experience with some of the pistols listed but I do own a Hi Point C9 and it shoots well. Not pretty but gets the job done.

Finally, the best answer is the best pistol for the shooter. He or she should try as many as possible and make a decision on the best for them.

Thats my take,

Hi-Point C9
The looks might make you (it's not that bad)
But the performance will make you (I think it shoots very well)
And the price will make you (like you stole the thing)

One of these 2. Most tested/widely trusted 9mm pistol designs on earth. Holsters and aftermarket parts are endless. And they shoot so smooth.

Beretta 92FS
Taurus PT92

Personally I like the Taurus because of the safety location and the finish options (price doesn't hurt either). I hear people say crap about Taurus, but I own 2 (a 94 and a 2007) and have not had any problems with either. I think maybe there have been problems with Taurus' other models (like the 24/7) and they have gotten a bad rep based on that... the 92 guns are solid and trustworthy neither of my 92's have ever let me down..

You have the "Kahr P" on the list, but I wouldn't - polymer frame. Instead, first choice is the T9, and secondly, the K9 Elite 2003.

My Taurus PT92 with a 20 round Mec-Gar mag, Pachmayr tactical grip glove, and a UTG laser.

Attachment 33230

I like it better than my Beretta M9 because I can carry it locked & cocked.

I'm on the Springfield side too. I have the XD-9 5" or "tactical" as they call it ( I assume to compete with Glock's 34 tactical/practical). Nice gun. I don't know about choosing the M over the original XD as suggested above. Some of the improvements are a matter of personal preference. Example...the longer magazine release is something I like but I could have done on my XD and I would if competing with it in some sort of practical shooting. The 5" model gives a nice long sight picture. Just my 2 cents.

My second choice would be a tie between the Beretta 92...only because I shot one and it was so comfortable thanks to the heavy all metal construction ( 115gr FMJ is a pleasure to shoot with that gun) and the Browning Hi-Power because it's a timeless classic and how can one argue against John M. Browning. I'm a sucker for history.

You carry that thing? Mine is already too bulky to carry and I don't have an extended mag or any attachments. How do you carry it?

I cant even find a good holster for it because of the rail (I wish I had bought the one without the rail, don't know what I was thinking).

BTW I love the location of the safety on the PT rather than the M9. As soon as you draw it your thumb is already right there.

Glock 17.

Magazines are inexpensive.
Many military's have chosen them as their issue sidearm.
It will eat all kinds of 9 mm ammo.
Used Glocks are inexpensive and are just as good as a new one anyway.
They can take a complete beating and still function.
They are tough as nails.
They are plain and business like.
There are documented round counts of well over 500,000 fired cartridges with no parts breakage or NEED of replacement in Glock pistols.

Look up Hickok45 on Youtube if you doubt a Glocks accuracy at 80 yds (and beyond) or if you doubt their reliability.

I could go on. Just do a search for torture testing of Glocks you will quickly see why so many people love them.

Frosty

+1, I have a 75b S.S. L.E. and it is an amazingly good 9mm

I would say 92FS, but for target shooting, you don't need a DA 'combat' gun that doesn't shoot the tightest of groups. Maybe a real nice Browning since it's single action. Use the extra $$ to finesse the gun.....
