In the new issue of "Backwoods Home" magazine (Nov./Dec.'09), Massad Ayoob writes, in his article entitled "The All American 1911 Pistol", that "Ruger is ready to introduce a low-priced, high quality 1911."
Does anyone have any info on this, as to a release date? If Ruger puts out a 1911 with the right price point, I am THERE. I do love Rugers! I'll ditch my Springfield in a heartbeat to get one.

I do believe that I could go for a Ruger 1911, too. I have not heard or read anything about it at all.

I love my Rugers too, but not so sure I'd be willing to ditch a Springfield for any new 1911, especially one marketed as "low priced". yes, I believe Ruger has quality product, but with the way things have been going in the QC dept, I'd stay with tried and true until it proves itself.

I might not make too many friends by saying this but here goes...
Why would they want to make a 1911 when they allready make a 45 called the P90? I have owned everything... Glocks, Sigs, 1911s, Hk...etc etc etc. None of them stack up to the Ruger P90 utter reliability. The P90 i owned never had any failures to feed... and more important to me... it was the ONLY 45acp that i was completely unable to make the thing produce a stovepipe jame...and I TRIED hard to get it to do it. Couldn't be done. The ONLY problem with the P90 is that it is the ugliest pistol i ever saw. Thats it..... I guess they are making a 1911 because of its popularity and not its reliability? mike gn

If a 1911 doesnt work, fix it yourself. There really isnt much to them... Most gunsmithing chores on a 1911 can be accomplished by any competent gun owner with just a few basic hand tools and a good diagram...

depending on the symptoms it could be anything as easy as a burr on the breech face to something as big as a messed up barrel.

I sent it back to Springfield and they reamed the barrel and replaced the extractor. But I'm still getting failures to go into battery and the occasional incident where the extractor "loses" the case rim. And I only ever shoot hardball in it.
It's better, but still not nearly perfect. I'm used to my Glocks and my Ruger P95, all of which have been 100 percent reliable, so.... |

probably what you need to do is smooth the breech face, throat the barrel a little, polish the feed ramp, polish the chamber just a tad. take the sharp edges off the slide rails, frame rails, locking lugs, barrel locking lug with some 600 grit sandpaper. it sounds like to me the feed angle is being affected.

The ONLY problem with the P90 is that it is the ugliest pistol i ever saw.
Even ugler than a glock? (ducking, QUICKLY!)

I think my P90 looks like it means business, and it does! I love my 1911's, & if Ruger put's on on the market I'll be taking a hard look at it.

Ruger and a 1911 sounds good to me.I'll ad it to my Amarican Classic II and then have 2 reliable 1911's.

I would think about a Ruger 1911 if it isn't plastic. I have an Auto Ordinance 1911 Gov't and after dumping in what it cost me wholesale (had an FFL then) it is completely reliable. I like the 1911 platform but still get antsy with cocked and locked. If I need a large S/A I always grab my P94 in 40.

Never thought Ruger would jump into the AR market but they did; I don't see any reason why they shouldn't make a 1911, they are still selling like hotcakes and competition drives the prices down.

Sometimes the brand of ammo you use can make problems too. My friend's AK was jamming when we put Winchester .223's through it, but when we put some other brand of .223 in it - exact same type of ammo, just a different brand - it ran fine. My buddy has a Colt M1991A1 3 1/2" Officer's and he was having feed failures too. Sent it back to Colt, they messed around with it a bit, was working okay for awhile, had a hiccup once in awhile. Had a buddy of his up in Sauk do something to the extractor and it ran like a dream. Sometimes it just needs adjustment. Get a book about 1911's and read up on them whoever was having feed failures on their Springfield.

The 1911 Colts coming out of the factory today are as good and usually better than any of the comparably priced 1911 pistols on the market.
