I picked up a new (to me anyway) Rock Island Armory M1911 on the way to work this afternoon. Of course I haven't fired it yet, I will post a range report when I get to shoot it. I have heard that RIA makes a good platform for customizing. I may look into this if time and money allow me!
There is an extra set of springs with it so the previous owner did something with it. My friend who owns the gun shop said that he "did some work on it" but who knows what that really means. ![]() Oh yea, I gave $415 for it.

Nice gun and great price. I don't think you could go wrong for a hair over 400 bucks. Can't wait for the range report!

He might have one set of springs for hard ball (full power) ammo, and
another set of springs for low powered target loads. Zeke |

Congrats. I hear more good things about RIA guns than not. One of the better entry level 1911's. Hope it serves you well.

I very seldon ever shoot my RIA anymore. Two reasons. It has always been very finicky on feeding rounds into the chamber. The other is that the beavertail on mine, bends down and becomes painful to my hand.
I think that my RIA was one of those "monday made" guns but I much prefer my Kimber. Good luck with yours.

I'm impressed with the RIA 1911"s. My experience is from shooting the hell out of my buddy's commander length RIA. Absolutely no frills, excellent trigger believe it or not, nothing weird happening after probably close to 1000 rounds. We did have 1 stovepipe in the first 100 rounds though, if that even matters. Have tried to buy it off him a few times, guess I'll have to get my own

Love my Rock Island. Never fails and is dead on. It is a no frill 1911 that does what it is supposed to.

Depends which Springfield 1911 you're comparing it with. Obviously a Loaded is on a different playing field than the RIA 1911-A1. But at least with my RIA 1911-A1, there isn't much difference between that an Springfield's GI 1911... Only difference is name brand, and cosmetic differences.

I too, just picked up a RIA 1911. Brand spanking new. It only came with one magazine, but I've got some on order. I live in a small town with only three places to buy a gun, and I got tired of shopping/hunting for different 1911s. One store had a new Springfield for over $800, one had two RIAs, and the other had no 1911s. So, I got the plane jane matt finish RIA M1911A1 for less than $500 to start my 1911 journey...
