I have some questions about the possibility of "free floating" the barrel on
the CZ452. if it didn't have the barrel lug there would not be any problem. The only reason im thinking about doing this to a new rifle is because I live in the northwest (Medford OR.) and the weather is very damp in the winter time. I have done a few rem 700s and they were straitfoward as there is no barrel lug to contend with. Im going to run about 500 or so rounds thru it first to see how it does, but if nessary I think i have came up with a way to "simi- float" the barrel and reciever. First after taking everything apart go ahead and sand the barrel chanel so you have about the width of two busnescards thickness around the barrel the whole lengh of the chanel. then for the lug im going to use a1/16" inch thick hard plastic spacer epoxied into the area of the barrel lug,and also under the area where the reciever screw pulls the reciever down. this will raise the whole assembly but will give you the room you need to epoxy the entire barrel chanel. That will seal the chanel and thereshould not be any problem with swelling in wet weather. Now this is just an idea im throwing around in my head, and I thought I would put it out there and see what you all thought, in a way it would almost be minipillar bedding! Any ideas? comments thoughts welcome thanks. DAM ![]()

So basically you just trying to find a way to seal the stock and free float the barrel?
This was actually a problem with another member. He was hunting in the rain and his stock swelled and his accuracy went to heck. CZ's are fine rifles. But one thing that CZ did not do when the inlet the stock is re-seal the stock. You don't need bedding agent to do that, just use tru oil in the barrel channel. It will soak into the wood without adding any thickness. do about 3 coats. This way now you can free float the barrel, and not have to lift the whole barreled action to make up for any added thickness from the bedding agent and bed the lugs and action normally. Now if this is on a mannlicher stock then your approach needs to be different. |

i don't know how much wetter you are than ct was this spring.....
i floated my 452 Brno with a washer that i bent to fit the barrel channel and as Helix said--some oil to seal the wood. that was 3 years ago and the gun holds its own against a friends' kimber Montana and the clubs fancy prone rifles. one has difficulty improving on something that works-- even if if seems too easy ![]()

You all back east got the mojority of the wet that's for sure, I was in Portland, OR in
december just before christmas the 16th and it dropped 20.5" of snow. my surgery was to be on the 18th it didn't happen intil the 24th, the doctor got stuck out of town! It was a record storm, anyway like I said im going to run some rounds thru her and see howshe does. I did change the sear to an automation unit, that was fun! but no more creep in the trigger, I put there spring in too and it's still about 4lbs pull. I guess I'll shorten it a coil or so and see how that works.DAM |

if Eric Brooks is still on the web--and reliable--
i got from him for $15.00 a trigger kit that can not be beat at any price. my cz has a bit of take up and a 8oz trigger. you can adjust from -0- take up in 4 steps and -0- trigger to 3lbs. a spring from a pen can be made to work, if memory serves me.

I orderd a Brooks kit the 4th of last month and did not get it, tried calling and emailing
to no avile. so I told paypal about it and ai have a claim with them, also my bank is involved as well. I don't know how he stays in busness doing it like he does. As for the stock it is not a mannlicher, it is a 452 special and the chanel dosn't even have a good coat of stain on it! So I think it is going to get refinished after all, the outside looks like it has been painted with deck stain! Not good, I can make it better. DAM ![]() |

if you refinish it and re coat it just give the barrel channel a good coat or 3. Don't put any finish in the receiver area. If you bed the action and float the barrel, the bedding agent won't stick as well.

Didn't think of that, good point thanks I had not planed to finish the reciever area
anyway as it seems to be pretty well sealed. It's the barrel chanel that is lacking, iv'e never seen a factory rifle look like this before. But it is fixable |
