Welcome aboard Marine. All of that "silly training" the Corps gave you is clouding your judgement in civilian life......at the least that how the libs and media would view it. I call it being prepared. You and every American have a right and a duty to protect youself and the lives of your family.
After 20 years, I have finally convinced my wife of the necessity of keeping a loaded weapon within reach at all times. Many folks have the same mind set you. So, no you are not weird.

If its in the safe, its not loaded. Whats the point. In the heat of WTSHTF I'm not going to ask the BG to wait while I crank out the combo to the safe. If its out of the safe, its loaded. Got a SG velcroed to the bottom of the bed frame and my 92 in a finger code safe, mag out. That way if I'm still asleep if something goes down I'm not wondering if I loaded the 92 or not. I've gotten very proficient at racking that slide.
If I'm still in bed I can roll out and grab the SG when I hit the floor. |

I have one loaded gun in the house at all times. I sleep with it. I don't keep the others loaded.

.44 mag lever carbine loaded next to the computer.
Witch is next to a window that looks out over most the property. .455 S&W loaded and in whatever room were in. Rocks and knives in every room, lance in the living room. Rest of the firearms put away. O, and a handful of game bombs ![]()

No you are not weird, you are dangerous, an accident waiting to happen. I have two safes, in the big safe there are no loaded guns. In the small safe there are several handguns which are all loaded and two loaded rifle magazines. I always have a loaded gun in my pocket. I frequently take guns out of the big safe to fondle, to work on, to take to the range, all of which require that the gun be unloaded. There is no way in hell I want to be constantly loading, unloading, loading, unloading......that is begging for an accidental discharge. Besides, what in the hell do I need with a loaded 30-06, a loaded 458, a loaded 1911 target pistol...and on and on and on? As far as an unloaded gun being useless, of course they are useless. But they are no more useful loaded and they are a heck of a lot more dangerous. Again, what use is a loaded 375 RUM or 300 magnum in suburban Jacksonville? These guns have two purposes, to amuse me when I am home for which they need to be unloaded and to shoot in an appropriate place which is emphatically not at home. As far as having a loaded gun or two or three in every room, what happens when someone breaks into your house and finds one and you walk in on them? You get shot with your own gun, that's what. I load a gun for a reason, a real reason, not some imaginary reason. To shoot at the range, to hunt with, to carry in my pocket (little handgun), to keep at the ready if I need it and have time to get it (big handgun). If I don't need it out it is locked up and if I don't need the gun loaded it is unloaded.

All the ones I have readily available are loaded with additional mags or reloads. I may be paranoid but I am prepared.

I'm not going to sit here and tell ya what I've got where, the only important thing is you do what you feel necessary. Me personally, there's no such thing as too prepared or too redundant. Oh, and Semper Fi, carry on.

Locked and loaded. Senario: I am put in a situation to defend my property and end up being outgunned. My wife has made it inside to get in the safe. Do I want her loading the guns while I am under fire? No. She grabs them and goes. To each their own. Mine are loaded in and out of the safe.

I keep 6 stratigically located in the house for personal protection loaded. A shotgun and rifle in the garage cabinet are always loaded in case of varmits. and two loaded in the truck and one in the car. and my trusty NAA 22 mag in my pocket and usually a 38 or 44 spl. snubbie on my person. the rest are in the safe ready to load. So to make a short story long I don't think I have room to call you wierd.

Well thanks for the replys I do not keep guns all around the house just the Bedroom and when I am awake and home I have my duty weapon on me at all times. I also would like to add that I have walked around with loaded firearms including open bolt belt fed machine guns ready to rock and never and I stress never had an ND or accident... I was also a range coach and am the only one in my home who handles my firearms the wife keeps her distance shes not a gun person but she knows how to use the shotgun just in case. My fellow Marines trusted me with loaded weapons in far deadlier situations then my home lol anyone who has served in combat understands this!

You are not weird you are realistic and vigilant
I have many guns and most of them are loaded and ready. They are chambered and only need a triger pull. Many friends think I am nuts and paranoid. They are right. I am a paranoid nut. If someone kicks down my door, they will be met with a wall of lead. I have 4 loaded pistols in my night stand and at least one gun in every room. I hope I never have the need to use them, but I will not hesitate if needed. I have a CCW lic and have carried a gun since 1969 and have never been in a position that I must use it. |
