Default BEING REMINDED ABOUT TARGET........

Wasn't it last Christmas that Target refused to let the Salvation Army ring their bells in front of their stores?

Dick Forrey of the Vietnam Veterans Association wrote.

'Recently we asked the local TARGET store to be a proud
sponsor of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall during our
spring recognition event.

We received the following reply
from the local TARGET management:
'Veterans do not meet our
area of giving. We only donate to the arts, social action
groups, gay & lesbian causes, and education.'

So I'm thinking, if the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall and
veterans in general, do not meet their donation criteria,
then something is really wrong at this TARGET store. We were
not asking for thousands of dollars, not even hundreds, just
a small sponsorship for a memorial remembrance..

As a follow-up, I E-mailed the TARGET U.S. Corporate
Headquarters and their response was the
same.
That's their
national policy

Then I looked into the company further..
They will not allow
the Marines to collect for 'Toys for Tots' at any of their
stores.. And during the recent Iraq deployment, they would
not allow families of employees who were called up for
active duty to continue their
insurance coverage while
they were on military service. Then as I dig further,

TARGET
is a French-owned corporation.

Now, I'm thinking again.. If TARGET cannot support American
Veterans, then why should my family and I support the ir
stores by spending our hard earned American dollars!
And,
have their profits sent to France

Without the American
Vets, where would

France be today?

'They, most likely would be speaking German and trading in Deutsch Marks'

Sincerely,
Dick Forrey
Veterans Helping Veterans

Please send this on to everyone you know
to let Target know

we don't need them either

Rooter, this e-mail is a hoax, according to both the VFW and Target.
They DO, and have previously, supported this wall.
Their charitable donations amount to over three MILLION dollars per WEEK.
They are getting a bad rap without cause due to someone making this story up, and many well meaning people perpetuating it.

Don't listen to Snopes or Target itself, but check what the VFW has to say about this:

http://www.vfw.org/news/target.htm

Also, the Vietnam Veterans of America debunks the e-mail on their site here:
http://www.vva.org/pr/VVA-TargetEmailHoax.html

My investigation also uncovered that Target is not owned by a French company.
They are a publicly owned American company headquartered in Minneapolis, MN since their founding in 1902 by George Dayton as the Dayton Company. Anyone can buy a piece of this company on the New York Stock Exchange. Their symbol is TGT.

Thanks Terry for the update and correction...I've said it before, and will probably be required to say it again, that passing along e-mails like this is unfortunate sometimes...I do so much posting that it seems as if I'm always being called to task for exactly stuff like this.... Chief

Chief, it is fairly common in conservative subjects.
But it is even WORSE in Christian subjects.
Man, I have found so darned MANY hoaxes there it causes me to just shake my head at times! They have drilled a hole to hell, and can hear people screaming at the bottom. NASA computers have found the missing time described in scripture. A bill is on the floor of congress that will eliminate all Christian broadcasting. Any minister of a church with a 501(c)3 tax exemption is only preaching what the government allows them to preach.
It REALLY makes me mad when I am hoodwinked by one and pass it on, then find it is not true. That means that when something REALLY happens that I want to spread the word on, I have become the poison well and folks doubt it.
MADDENING!!!

Then there are those times that my sense of humor gets me in trouble.

GLOBE magazine always has wildly laughable stories, and I have upon occasion picked one up to share at church. Once, they had a story with the headline "Preacher Explodes in Pulpit!"
Oh, I HAD to buy that.
Sunday morning, as I looked out at the congregation seated (as usual) behind the front two empty pews, I announced "I have found the reason why no one sits in the front two rows at church. Everyone knows how a preacher gets fired up and paces, gets louder, gets red in the face and so forth, and folks just naturally KNEW that sooner or later this would happen" - at that point I held up the magazine with that headline at the top of the article, and continued - "and no one wants to be hit by any flying pieces when it happens!"

Before anyone could laugh, one dear lady in a shocked and troubled voice said "Oh, that POOR man!!"

Ah well -
We do what we can, and move on.

Hey Terry, a point to ponder on the same subject....printed page and pictures that grab you in suffocating disbelief or gutt-busting laughter...At the grocery stores check-out counters with the magazines and papers displayed there... big attention grabbing headlines and sometimes photos of some babe you'd always considered 'hot', displaying generous amounts of flab that looks like one of those loose-skinned dogs!! I guess it's there because people buy the stuff...maybe that's where some of these stories that get passed around originates...some fool embellishes the tale to his own liking and fools like us read it and pass it around for gospel....Yeah, they got our numbers and they're getting rich!!!! Chief

You're probably right, chief.

I remember another check-out line tabloid I bought to share at church -
There was a picture of what looked like a statue of an angel floating face down in a pond. The headline screamed "DUCK HUNTER SHOOTS ANGEL!"

I put it with the groceries, and as the young girl checking us out rang it up, I said "Some article, huh?"
She stopped checking and read the headline, then studied the picture closely. Then she asked in a hushed voice "Is this TRUE??"
I said "Of course it's true - there is a picture of it right there!"
When the bagger had finished putting items in our bags and I had picked them up to leave, Judy was STILL talking to this girl, explaining to her that I was just kidding - -

So you are probably right -
This gal could easily e-mail her friends and tell them she had seen the pictures of the angel that had been dropped by a 12 gauge with #4 shot - -

How much do you have to lead an angel, anyway?
Does anyone know their normal flight speed?

Don't know much about those angels that fly, Terry.....I sure am renouned on the ones I make that I call John's Angel....they sit on a shelf in memory of the sick, the deceased, and lots of times, just for the glory of being an angel for some poor soul having a hard time...I think there is only one country in the world that don't have John's Angels and that is North Korea....There are magazine and newspaper articles printed here in the bulletin board about them....They are named John's Angels in memory of our son John Jr. who died of AIDS back in 1996.. Manyt times various missionaries will request one for a gift to some distant shore....Enjoy the season. Chief
