Default Holsters

Happy Holidays to all. I have been looking for a holster to carry concealed. I live in Florida and usually wear shorts and a tucked in shirt. I have a S&W M&P 9c. I found some holsters at high noon holsters that look very nice. Does anyone have an opinion about them or have any other suggestions.
Thanks for your help.
David

I'm still on the fence about holsters, I think it takes a lot of experimentation before finding the exact style that's right for you and the particular gun. One thing is for sure, you absolutely have to have a sturdy, quality belt! (That is, if you're using a belt-attached holster, of course.)

Hey Pinecone, Yes, I always wear a belt but I don't think I have a very good one. I just started with this so the only belt I have is my regular belt that I always wear. Not really sure what to look for in a belt either. I could also use some help with that.

Sturdy belt is key, mine is twice as thick as a regular belt. That way it keeps the holster in the same position all the time. I have been using a high-ride holster, which is slightly canted forward, by the way. If I don't keep the belt tight, it tends to sag outward and the print of the gun shows through my shirt. My gun is heavy and large, but it is comfortable and I don't even think about it being there. I'd rather have an inside the waistband holster, but with the size of my current carry gun, I'd have to go and buy bigger pants!

Gun belts can be found on the holster manufacturer websites.

I bought one of those cell pal holsters recently, but I am returning it. It just wasn't what I expected. I have an IWB holster but I can only use it if I wear my shirt out. The ones at www.highnoonholsters.com seem pretty nice. They have the belt clip on a piece of leather that is only stitched to the holster at the bottom creating a "V" between the holster and the clip part. That is where you would tuck in your shirt. Seems like they have received pretty good reviews.

Tuckable holsters are pretty great, especially for those of us that have to make sure our guns are concealed. I would imagine that they require practice drawing though, more so than some of the other styles. Even muscle memory can be altered with different clothing choices.

Gee, it makes me wish I could open carry, it's so much easier! Haha.

Yup, open would be great. The problem with the cell pal is that it pushes outward. Always looks like I'm on Viagra. I tried moving it a little back towards my hip or forward towards my **** (you get the picture) and it still just wasn't right. I found some reviews about it on another forum and everyone hated it. Wish I new that before I bought it but the guy is letting me return it.

Oh dear. Well, that's not good at all. I have my own set of problems due to the size of the gun and just being female, but I really don't want to carry a gun in my purse (seems like a bad idea if only because of purse snatchers).

Good thing you can return the holster that wasn't right, it does take a while to find the correct one, especially for the larger or thicker framed guns. I will have all kinds of trouble once warm weather rolls around, and I may have to get a pocketable gun as another carry option.

Just bought my wife a concealed carry purse made for just that purpose. It has a front pocket witha side zipper that she can undo before leaving the store or work and put her hand inside and hold the gun. If she see a bad guy she can pull it quickly or if someone tries to grab the purse, her hand is already on the gun so the gun comes out when the bad guy tries to grab the purse. She got it at Brighton Collectables in our local mall. Don't know if you have one there.

I have my doubts about my ability to get the gun out of the purse in the same amount of time as I can draw from a holster with a thumb-break. LOL! It's an individual preference, I seem clumsy with any purse even when getting cash out of it....I'd be tempted to carry two guns, with one intended to defend the one in the purse!

You might look at the Crossbreed Super Tuck. I have one and it is very nice and it is an IWB.

Default Holsters ???

Ok I read a lot of posts here on holsters. No problem here with them.

But how many of you just stick the auto in your pants under your belt and go to town? I've done it a million times and have been gone for most of the day, No problem.

Mines a 9 I usally do it with but have with the 1911 also.

Never done it, don't see why I wouldn't put my holster on.

I carry a commander size 1911 in a Horseshoe Leather IWB holster daily.

I don't use a holster if I carry a gun with it's own belt clip, or pocket carry.

I have been considering a beltster, though. Does that count as a holster? Or a belt? Or both? I guess it's both.

I am hesitant to carry a gun without a round in the chamber, and hesitant to carry a gun that's not in a holster(protected trigger) with a round in the chamber. Accidents will happen on their own. No reason to ask for them.

How well put. I would never carry any loaded weapon in anything but a holster. Especially, a GLOCK. It doesn't take much too squeeze those two little trigger levers.

Good point. I always use a holster when I carry firearms illegally while drinking.

I found an IWB holster for my Bersa Thunder 380. I was doubtful at first, but it is so comfortable that you forget it is there. I found it HERE.

Tim,

How does that thing work? The clips on each end go over the top of your pants? You're right, it is ugly.

Inside your waistband and the clips fit over your belt. Sweatshirt, untucked shirt, coat etc. hides it all. They custom make the Kydex Holster part to fit your model of gun.

You're right....UGLY, but very functional and COMFORTABLE (even with my spare tire

I'd never carry in any situation without something protecting the trigger guard. I know many people disagree with that.

I have a friend who carried a Ruger LCP with a clip attached to it. It would sit down below his belt and he would tuck his thumb into his pants to draw it. He loved how small, simple and concealable this was, but after realizing how easy it would be to accidentally catch his thumb in the trigger guard on draw, he changed his methods.
