I am doing some research on a Derringer that I recently inherited from my Grandfather. No brand, only serial number under barrel "7408" which appears twice - see pic. It also appears to be all one piece - barrel does not break, swivel, or screw on/off like others I have seen. No idea how it could be loaded.
I think it may be an Iver Johnson, but want opinions on make, model, year and value. Anything else you know about it or where to go for more info would be appreciated. Thx!

It's a Remington-Elliot, .41rf, made ca 1867-1888. Should be marked on barrel with Remington address and 1867 patent date, but maybe polished off of yours. Flayderman lists value for Good condition as $675 but if it's been polished and/or refinished would be less.
The hammer also serves as the breechblock, like the Flobert rifles: http://www.american-firearms.com/ame...ent/68,292.jpg Last edited by hrf; 01-22-2010 at 05:01 PM.. |

Dear hrf-
Thanks so much! I just noticed the address inscription on top of barrel for first time about 30 minutes before checking my initial post. It was small and I just overlooked it. Was coming back here to put the inscription on to help with identification but found your response instead. For posterity and to help others in the future, the inscription is: REMINGTONS.ILION.N.Y. ELLIOT.PAT.AUG.27.1867 Obviously, you nailed this one, and in only 58 minutes after my initial post. You rock! |
