Default mountain lions in pa

Anyone who has lived in PA has either seen or heard about the mountain lions in pa. The pa game comision says that there is none and that if anyone sees one that it was released by a house. But i beleave that the game comision has put several into pa to lower the deer population bc the insurance componies have payed them to. One person hit one with a car and the game comision took it before anyone know he hit it so i figgure it had a chip in it. If anyone has seen a mountain lion in pa let me know or if you has one on your trail camera.

Thanks

I have talked to at least 4 credible people who swear they have seen them. I have heard stories from others that I dont put any stock in also. The credible witnesses are men who are woods wise I have talked to them and I know they know the difference between a bobcat and a mt. lion.
However, I have never seen one and never seen a track in the snow. I have never got one on my woods camera either. I have got photos of bobcats, coyotes, weasels, hawks, foxes, possums, coons, woodchucks, rabbits, bears, and other critters.
Ive heard the insurance co. theory before. I suppose it could be,but I kinda doubt it. With all the extended seasons and getting rid of the 3 day doe season and making it 2 weeks with rifle plus over a month of archery then more muzzleloading , They have been very succesful in decimating the deer herd without the mt. lions. Also there ARE alot of coyotes and bobcats which probably get quite a few fawns.
I would love to see a mt. lion but if there are any there must be damn few.
If I ever see tracks or get one on the woods camera I'll let you kniow.

If they really wanted to use mt. lions to keep th deer herd even lower than it allreday is, they should "stock" the lions around the little patches of woods around the more developed land where most of the subdivisons are. Or in gettsburg park or valley forge- places like that, that dont get any hunting pressure and where the largest human population is. Most city people wouldnt know the difference between a mt. lion and a possum so their secret would be safe.

Interesting topic: Pa. wildlife biologist say there isn't any proof they are here, but there isn't any proof they are not.

We winter in SE Texas and they have a Black Jaguar down here that doesn't exist either. I have seen one while exercise walking on a county road and have friends that ride motorcycles that have spotted them on their rides. One of them called Texas Fish and Wildlife and told them what they saw and the F&W guy told him they didn't exist. My friend then said "ok we'll shoot the next one we see and bring it in". The F&W guy said: "that illegal" and my friend said "How can it be illegal if they don't exist?". End of conversation.

They are in PA as I'm guessing a few just extended their range. I sincerely doubt the F&G brought them in under the radar at anyones behest as you would have seen some whistle blower on 60 minutes talking about all the kids and pets that were in danger.

Well, I know for a fact they are around here in Ohio. Maybe far and few in-between, but they ARE around.
About 1973, I was a kid and my uncle put in a new pond and we found some big tracks, didnt have a clue
what they was, but we made plaster casts from them and my aunt still has them.
About a year later a guy I knew very well and went to school with all his kids was coon hunting and they
cornered what he called a Black Panther.
A few years later, me and my cousin was rabbit hunting along a grown up ditch through a field, him on
one side and me on the other. I was about 50yrds from the ditch line when a big black thing run out on my
side. Didnt know what it was so I got closer and it loped away down the line of wild rose bushes and had
a big o'l droopping tail, and then I KNEW what it was.
Over the next few years we and others around heard it sometimes late at night, sounded then like a screaming
lady. And people from as far away as 25+ miles was hearing and seeing the same thing. (all sounds like a big
TALE, but it aint, I was there)

The year before last, me and my son was coming up a steep trail out of a gorge on a 4 wheeler and on the trail
in front of us we saw this BIG brown streak comeing from nowhere high above the trail and it like landed and
was gone just as fast. My son (17 at the time) was scared to death, and I wasnt exactly calm either, didnt
even have a gun!

This past year before Bow season I was glassing a field from my 4Wheeler and out about 350yrds I saw what
I though might be a coyote...as it was in and out of the brush. I got as close to it as I could and shut the 4x4
off and got my rifle ready. (it was still in the brush) Held the scope there and it came out...nothing but a BIG
A#%$@ MT. LION! As I have never seen one looking through a rifle scope...all I could do was look at it.
And yep, I was scared. And now when I'm out in the woods doing whatever, Ive always got a good pistol on my
side just incase.
And this I do know, shoot one and see what happenes, (i have never) but they have tracking chips in them.
A close friend works for DNR and he wont admit it, but when I ask him he just nodds.

I know one thing, around here, spend all night long in the middle of nowhere (as I have many nights)
and you see things that you think
aint around here because you never see them in the daylight. For example, you hardly ever see a bobcat around,
you'd think they wasnt...but they are and they are doing quit well in these parts.
And as for Mt.Lions, they are very elusive, and just because people dont see them all they time, dont mean they
aint there! And yes, the DONR, DOW and all other sate forestry officals will tell you the same thing, "they arnt
around"! Well I know for a fact they are around here, maybe scarace and far in between, but they are 100%!

And no, I don't go around telling the neighbors this, unless they bring it up! And then I"ll tell them the way it is
on this subject! Some neighbors around here (city-fied ones), you tell them what I just told, ya get "that look"!
And ya know what I mean..so, I dont tell anyone less it's brought up!

I live in Pa and I feel the mountain lion is like big foot. A lot people say they have seen them, but I have not heard of anyone shooting one. Take a walk through the woods on the first day of buck season, there are so many people that if there was a purple chipmonk, it would be seen and collected.

Econ says there are none in NY either. Well I guess the one that crossed the road in front of my wife, and the one that walked directly under my friends deer stand didn't know they were in NY. Of course they denied that Bald egales where around here for the longest time too. And that fisher I shot back in the early 1980's, and that they took the carcass for research wasn't supposed to be here either. At least they let me keep the pelt, that covered some of the damage to the dog.

If I understand correctly, the big cats have a territory of about 60 miles. Both sightings I mentioned here occured within that range, so it could be one cat. Both people involved estimated the cat at 6 feet in length. My wife said that including the tail, it was wider than her car.

They have a reputation for being elusive, but Encon seems to ignore any mention of a sighting.

Well Mark, I dont know anything about BigFoot, as I have never seen that "critter" yet! But I have seen Mountain Lions/Panther/Cougers/Puma's whatever the name, and each to their own my friend.
And I have yet to see a purple chipmunk as to date, but who knows?
However if and when I do see a purple chipmunk in the woods in the wild, I'll have to question my own sanity for sure!!! Somethin to ponder, eh?

I know they are here in Wi., There are 4 different guys I know of've that have pictures off there trail cameras. But it could be the same mountain lion as it's in about a 45 mile radius of each other. But they said they didn't plant the fisher here eather. And there is a big fight about all the wolfs around here killing cattle. Plus all the different deer seasons, from sept. tell the end of dec. your lucky to even see a deer any more.

Now that is getting bad! For the deer to be scarce that's not good.
The main cause for lower numbers of deer used to be over hunting, least one would think.
I know in this area, the deer are really taking off in population, and the state's total take harvest was way down from last year.
I hunted this past gun season in Ohio and was wondering where all the hunters were! I thought maybe it was just in "my" area but asking other hunters around, they too was wondering the same question.
And all this past year, the road kills was sky high! One could drive from the middle of the state to the southern most county and you'd get tired of counting all the road kills.
I feel for the deer hunters there in WI.! That's a shame.

Are you really that surprised that government agencies DENY stuff?

How can you tell when a politician or bureaucrat is lying? when they open their mouth.

Oh yeah, and, the FEMA camps don't exist either.

Enjoy your train ride.

Pardon my ignorance, but a Fisher is what?

I am not familiar with the term.

It's a furry critter, like a mink (except much bigger.)

Another Weasel, like the Marmot, I guess. A Weasel is like a suped up, smarter Rat, right?

Are those teeth, sticking out of his mouth? Very impressive!

Yes, if rats could be long and slinky. A fisher is a marten, they look very similar.

I am not disputing that there are mountain lions in the states that you guys are mentioning but in Pa app. 1 in 13 people hunt, and for zero mountain lions to be killed or good pictures in the snow I am just not beliving it right now. You never know they may try to stock some to kill off the few remaining deer that we have left. You know that the anti-hunting movement is there trying anything thay can. As for the fishers they did admit to stocking them in Pa and yes I did see a dead one. The reason I figure for them stocking fishers is that they are the only natural preditor for the porpine which chews on trees, and the timber ind. does not like that, the same as the timber ind. wants all the deer removed because the bucks rub on there trees.
Believe me I do not want mountain lions, wolves or coyotes killing the game that I love to hunt.EVERYONE I know will kill any one of these if they are seen or herd of and yes I do hunt alot of coyotes. When I do see a mountain I will post the pic here first.

There here in PA. A relative of mine had spotted one in his field in south eastern PA. He doesn't want to advertise exactly where.

There are NO mountain lions in the northeastern United States, just as there are NO Communists in the white house.

Its possible. We havent had them in Louisiana in years, but last year a couple of them moved in. Overzealous cops shot them when they were spotted and treed. They covered a lot of territory, were caught on game cameras for about 100 miles.

Good picture of the fisher pinecone 70, they take turkey and deer fawns also as i have found bones of each at fisher dens when i use to trap them. And they will run about 35lbs in weight. and they are not afraid of any thing.

In NH we call them Fisher Cats. There are several in our area and I periodically see them out back. I enjoy watching them as they are a neat little animal. They are so quick that they don't have trouble killing a porcupine.
