Stevens Model 73 Y (youth model), single shot .22 bolt action. Given to me when I was less than 12, may be 8 or 9. I still have it though someone nicked the scope. I think it might be relegated to snake-shot duty, since my kids have no interest. -Bret

My first .22 rifle was a Remington Model 41 Targetmaster given to me by my dad when I was 10 yrs. old and I still have the rifle. I've shot a lot of gophers with it then and it still is an accurate rifle.

First was a Marlin model 60, stainless model which now "belongs" to my 12 yr old daughter, now also have a Marlin model 80,chromed barrel and reciever, bolt action and ironnsights though reciever is grooved for scope, also have a Model 81 tube fed bolt action with blued barrel and reciever, 80 has micro grooved barrel and 81 is Ballard cut barrel, both have probably been shot more by my friends who have "newer" rifles, also have a Remington model 597 which I find is ok as long as it loads right, have to get a couple of newer magazines for it.

Would you believe a 1903 Winchester? It was already 80+ years old too. I saw it and had to have one. Thats before I realized the ammo was obsolete. So a week later I fell in love with a Remington model 12 pump. And like a Lays potato chip, nobody can have just one. Man gun shows used to be so addictive. Oh the pain, oh the pain.

Ruger 10-22 purchased from Montgomery-Ward in 1979. The day I sold it in 1984, I regretted it. I have since purchased two more 10-22's with the understanding that these will end up in my estate- along with a number of other .22's.

Winchester 250 lever gun, My Uncle gave it to me when I was 9 for a christmas present. I gave it back to him a couple years ago for him to hand it down to his grandson. It was a fun gun.

First gun I ever bought, In 1966 when I was 16 and worked in the hardware dept. of a store next to the sporting goods, well I saved up and got a Winchester 290 the guy there even setup my Weaver 3x6 variable scope. Loved that gun, still have it.
I never liked the scope, took it off. The W290 .22 S/L/LR has the fancy checkering and woodword as compared to the plain W190, same gun. You never forget your first one! |

Remington Nylon 66 given to me by my Dad when I was young. Was a great rifle that I wish I still had but some A-hole burglar stole it and all my guns, stereo, records when I was about 22. Also got my wonderful Colt Frontier Scout and the hand made leather quick draw rig I made for it.

My first 22 was a Winchester 69. Bought in 1960 or 61. Think i paid $54 for it with a 4 power Weaver scope. In the 60's that rifle went every where with me. Still have it. I also have my fathers old Remington model 12 and my grandfathers Remington model 34. Damn those two rifles are older than i am. Killed a lot of woodchucks and crows with the old model 34. I think it was the first 22 i ever shot.

A Harrington & Richardson Pioneer, single-shot. Well, my brother and I shared it. He killed many squirrels with it, out of necessity.

Winchester Model 110 single shot. Got it for Christmas right after I turned 9. I begged my parents for a Crosman 760 pellet rifle and they told me that it was too powerful and to forget it. I was so upset that there wasn't a present under the tree for me.....until all the rest of the brothers had gotten their presents......low and behold there was a long skinny box way back under the tree hiding. I was so overcome with joy I still remember it 40+ years ago. The very first shot with it the next morning accounted for a huge grey squirrel.
![]() Still have it and it has accounted for a many a critters up to and including deer. |

My first .22 was a Old Model Ruger 3 Screw revolver. My father bought it new and polished the frame grip and elector housing out. He also polished the hammer and trigger and had an action job put on it. I sold it in my early 20's like a dumb*$$. Man I miss that gun.
