He's saying what folks who've owned Ruger 10/22's know...they're better off when never made by Ruger.

It's why Voldquartzen makes a fortune on aftermarket parts...they make better replacement receivers (& everything else) than Ruger does.

You can BUILD a better 10/22 out of Spare Parts than Ruger can.
That's just the bottom line. Ruger has become the company of SUCK over the last 20 years.

That's the great thing about Marlins...you don't need to replace their barrels unless you run over one with a bulldozer

Marlins are Sub-MOA accurate out of the box. I like being able to have dime-sized groups without resorting to bull barrels & other junk.

Also PLENTY of accessories for Dressing 'em Up.

It's a shame the trigger is awful on it. The trigger group is quite rough. I'd much rather take the trigger group out of my 10/22 than my Model 60.

I looked through your link and was very disappointed to see that Boyds ran out of the Model 60 thumbhole stocks. I didn't even know they ever made 'em! For $45 or $50, that can't be beat.

Personally, I just bought a Winchester Wildcat and I found myself well. honesty is a weapon, it costs little and is very accurate.

Ronnieboy, if you are ever in Oklahoma City, stop by and I'll show you the one pictured above, it'll shoot small groups all day long, even better when the barrel gets nice and warm.

Used Russian CM-2 Olympic target rifles go for $279 from CDNN. These are reputed to be VERY accurate.

God no, I shure wish it was. That is a Taurus .22 mag pump I found at a pawn shop in Georgia. It is a good copy of a Winchester though and it aint a bad shooter either. I have had a ball with it.

I've got a Savage Mark II as well along with a Marlin Model 60 but the 10/22 is the most fun to shoot now that it can put the bullet where I point.
This is the ticket! No doubt!

Smile Re: Most accurate 22lr rifle for under $400?

Dear Martin L.: I agree with Pawn whose good judgement I add to my own 60 years of shooting experience. The CZ 452 Ultra Lux Super Exclusive is probably your best choice with tangent iron sights, with receiver sights, or with telescopic sights. New hyper velocity loads actually gain velocity in its 28.8 inch barrel giving it a formidable reach to 300 meters. With the best of these loads, Aguila Interceptor, it actually has a chronographed muzzle velocity of 1464-1468 fps four feet from the muzzle, very close to the factory advertized 1470 fps. Note the very small deviation in shot to shot velocity revealed by the chrongraph; that spells load accuracy with a superbly designed 40 grain bullet. With open tangent sights I get one hole at center at 25 yards, .5" at 50 yards, 1.25" at 100 yards, 2.5" at 200 meters, and 4.5" at 300 meters, at which distance the Interceptor will shoot clean through a Montgomery Yellowbook, which a CCI Blazer will only penetrate 70% at 50 yards. Add the receiver sight: 7" at 400 meters, 10" at 500 meters, 12" at 600 meters in quiet air. Your Ruger 10-.22 will never do that with such a load however customized. As for how the CZ Ultra Lux will do with ordinary .22 LR, mine with a receiver sight and Federal Automatch at 1200 fps makes one hole at 25 yards, .5" at 50 yards, 1" at 100 yards 2.15" at 200 meters, 3.3" at 300 meters. That is one minute of angle to 300 meters in quiet air. The CZ Ultra Lux weighs only 7 Lbs with its tangent or a Williams receiver sight and has a prodigious sight radius. I have nicknamed mine Anzio Annie; she is not for sale. My second choice would be a CZ Lux, third a CZ Trainer. Fourth choice a Savage MK II target model with receiver sights and a good medium weight barrel that makes a very good heat sink, and has the good new Savage Accu-Trigger. Savage barrels have a fine reputation for accuracy. You have probably noticed that all of these rifles are bolt actions. These have strong, tight breaches and will channel every bit of propellent gas from a CCI Velocitor or a Aguila Interceptor behind the bullet and not into the opening breach of any blow-back semi-auto action. Try Whitakers for a good deal. Such a rifle will last as long or longer than you will. Since I am now cured of cancer, I am looking forward to hearing from you on you choice and its performance and putting in plenty of fun time on the range. Good luck in your quest.

Yes but will your Rem Speed Master shoot 1.5 inch groups at 150 yds like a CZ?

Boyd's runs periodic specials on Model 60 Stocks...Instead of making them all the time, it's about every three months, they do a run of about 500 stocks...and they usually sell out within a few days.

I think they just like to bump their quarterly numbers by doing the Marlin Specials...but I'll post up next time they do it.

As far as the Marlin Trigger goes...there is a VERY simple tweak. Simply drill & tap a 6/32" setscrew in the head of the trigger, which does two things...gives a precise mating surface and makes the trigger adjustable.

If you look carefully, that screw head is a allen-type, but they also come as phillips.

Hands down any Savage or Cz would be an excellent choice. If you can, handle different models and buy the one that "feels right" to you.

The gun was right at the $400 mark.

That said, I still want a heavy barrel .22 bolt gun to use with my suppressor that is accurate. Between what should be even better accuracy, with a quieter action, that would be one squirrel getting machine. I am tempted by the Ruger 77 but they are just too expensive for what they are.

That is so cool looking its not even funny
