Yeah, as the title subject mentioned, it is an adventure. Later it proved to be my fault as things tended to get straightened out, but an adventure, none the less. We have all social security, pension, and retirement amounts going direct deposit to our banks...Mine to Bank of America and the wife's to Chase Bank. The latter tends to be left alone and a pretty fair amount has built up in there...Recently I did write a check on that account to pay property taxes and kinda forgot about it....like I said, my error...But, balancing things out at months middle, the January deposit appeared to be missing...I called the 1-800 number from social security references and following a long-ass menu, finally got a real live person..Oh things went alright but not a lot of enthusiam or sympathy...The term 'tracer' was used and a duration of 2 or 3 weeks tossed out at calls end....I was whining to a friend and he told me that there was a S/S office within 2 miles of our home that would handle the problem... Early Wednesday morning we hurried on up to the S/S office and waited for service...Yes, it went well and the lady was very sympathetic...She poo-pawed the 2 to 3 weeks promised during the 800 call and told us if we didn't have the problem solved with a 'check-in-the-mail' by the next day to come back Friday...WOW!!!!! Friday was the last work day of the month and the offices were super-crowded...Finally this very professional agent said, "You've got it all wrong...you must go to your bank and get a 'print out' proving that the questioned amount was not deposited...Well, the bank showed and proved to me the errors of my inept attention to details and there was the 'missing' check....For all you guys who've been married as long as I have, ya just have to humble yourself and eat crow....time way back you told your significant other as I did that you'd take over the banking business...you mentioned the more 'detail orientated' thing...Do you know that feeling of restrained silence on your long term partner....eventually as she relates the circumstances to friends and kin, there will be chuckles at first and then, uninhibited laughter...Crow is okay to eat when you flavor it with New Iberia Louisana Hot Sauce...you know that feeling later when nature calls and that's the reminding you get! Chief

I live near a city. I despise going into the SS office. The clients there make me embarassed to be collecting SS.

I would be totally lost if the wife didn't take care of our banking business, i really should learn a little about it, cause she won't be around forever. She takes care of all the bills too another mistake i have made since i married her.
I don't have a clue where or when a bill needs to be paid. One of these days i will have to learn the hard way.

Going to the SS office reminds you of why we have such a corrupt and inept government. You get to rub elbows with the real electorate.
