Red face CMP Mossberg 44US

I live about 10 miles or so from the CMP sales store in Anniston, AL and Saturday we were down that way and we stopped in. I bought a Mossberg 44 US that looks like it just came from the factory. The bluing is excellent, no rust, and believe it or not it has a fantastic, highly figured walnut stock with no gouges, dings or dents. I've never seen one with a walnut stock before. The finish has been stripped off and I used to make custom stocks, so I knew what I was looking at. They didn't have any magazines with them, but I had a couple. It was $175.00. Better jump on them while you can.

I sure wished I lived that close to the South store. I have driven from Athens, Georgia to buy some Garands there. That sounds like an excellent price for that rifle.

These are great guns. I bought one from the CMP around 2002. It also looked new but had the parkerized finish. Mine is the most accurate gun I own even with the stock Mossberg S-100 peep sight.

I grew up using and hunting with a Mossberg 44US(b). It was the only .22 we owned. It weighed over nine pounds. It had the peep sights and an adjustable trigger. It had three different posts on the front sight, a bead, a flat post, and an aperture. You slid the hood off and swung up the one you wanted to use. A very accurate rifle. I killed rabbits, squirrels, groundhogs, quail, and hawks with it. I am sure I killed other things with it but those are what I can recall right now.

I would love to have it back but my dufus brother let his dufus ex-son-in-law steal it. We knew he did it but could not prove it. We were never able to get it back.
